I didn't love it though. It is a compilation tape from various older Firm workouts and the editing isn't the greatest or maybe it is the cueing in the originals, I'm not sure. Too many times you're told something like " put your step to the side " but not what is coming next then they switch to another instructor and she's also saying " put your step to the side " or she's saying " set up for whatever " but they don't always tell you what kind of weights you need. Sometimes I'm not sure what the cue means until I see the exercise performed so then I've missed at least one rep while I figure out which weights to grab. Most of the time I paused it and then backed it up after I was ready so it was a mild annoyance but not a terrible one. This just had a weird feel to it altogether too. There's one segment with cardio, I'm not sure why though. It is the only one out of 11 chapters that has cardio (you do some plyo jumps). I never could figure out what to expect. It seemed like you did upper and lower intermittently, there might have been a pattern but I wasn't aware of it this time through. It seemed too like you did an exercise and then moved onto other things, then came back later to do more of the same exercise but with a different instructor from another tape and you'd already done both sides so I was confused thinking, why are we doing this again? It just felt jumbled I guess. Maybe that was my mood this morning too though? I was a little frustrated with the cueing and, once again, grabbed weights that were too heavy for 16 reps in each set of most exercises so I had to pyramid down in the middle of sets sometimes too. I had to talk myself through some of the leg presses too. I had 10 lb. weights and I'm not sure which set we were on (there were a lot it seemed and I was tired. I had to literally talk out loud, saying, " You're strong, you CAN do this. " I made it but it wasn't easy. I'll have to try this one again before I decide how much I like it. One bonus is that I got this on DVD, with 5 Day Abs on the same DVD. It was part of a 2 disc set that also included Upper Body & Standing Legs on the other disc (got it for cheap on ebay to replace some of my VHS tapes). The best part is that it is chaptered and so is 5 Day Abs so I can easily pick which day to use. If anyone wants my other 5 Day Abs DVD (not chaptered) please let me know offline and I will be happy to send it to you! :-) -- Get Fit! Guest guest
Great job, . This is one of my favorite FIRM oldies as well. Better Body and Buns is part of the "tri-trainers' series that included Fat Blaster and Max Body Shaping (the one w/ Tracie Long). I don't know if they ever put it on DVD, but maybe you can snag a VHS. It is one of my favorites! I don't think Jen Peluso or Taber did any other workouts for the FIRM. Take care, Donna From: <nancydewolf@...>Subject: Tough Tape 2 Date: Thursday, April 22, 2010, 3:16 PM Wow! What a fun workout! Okay, very tough workout too but it left me energized and feeling great! This was my first time through this "parts" workout from The FIRM. It had a bunch of different instructors and is pieced together from a bunch of different videos but it was very well edited so it was easy to keep following it through. I was familiar with most of the workouts from which the parts came (Firm Cardio, Firm Strength, Maximum Body Shaping) but it also had parts from Better Body and Buns which I've never heard of. Better Body and Buns has (at least) two instructors I'm not familiar with either, Peluso (she did the warm-up and maybe a bit more, she was okay, not exciting) and Taber Bruner who I've heard of and maybe did a video with her in it before but I'm not sure. Taber has a gravely voice but also does the cueing in almost a sing-song that made her a bit disconcerting (sing-song with that voice just didn't match for me) but that's my problem, she was very good. The parts from Better Body and Buns were really good too so I'm going to have to look for that one! I've never done the original Tough Tape so I can't compare it but if it is as good as this one then I'm going to have to add that to my wish list too! Anyway, this is a strength training video with a little bit of cardio, mostly Jen Carmen leading you through plyo jumps. It covers the whole body and seemed pretty thorough except that there is not an abs section. I forgot to turn on my HRM until I was at least 1/3 of the way through so I'm not sure how my stats really come out but I know that you move quickly enough from one exercise to another in some parts, especially when leg presses are part of the equation, that your heart rate goes up and stays up. The pace is very safe though and I was able to go heavy on most exercises. I've decided 10s for leg presses with the 14" step are okay but not when I have to do other work quickly afterwards so I mostly used 8s for anything climbing the box with weights but did 10s as my heavy weight for most other things and that worked. There's quite a bit of shoulder work, which I'm finding I really like. I used to hate it but I'm really coming to appreciate how much it is helping my mobility and appearance and I no longer dread it. There are quite a few pushups too, which I also appreciate but still dread (I really need to go back to the 100 pushups challenge... I'm thinking about it but am no there yet). The music throughout this workout was very good and helped keep me going. And now I'm off and going again... as I have been all day. I stopped in for about an hour and have to do the run to school and dance thing tonight. Tomorrow is a total change of pace with Maximum Cardio Burn. I'm also hitting a HUMUNGOUS church rummage sale before my workout tomorrow and am hoping to score some good workouts, books (fiction mostly), fitness stuff, kitchen stuff and who knows what else. Usually, my workout comes before anything whenever I can ddo it that way but I'm making an exception for this sale! :-)
