Hi -

I've heard different things about the ears. The OT at Cranial Tech, Kay, says she won't get a bunch of correction in the ears. Grace's cranio doc says she should get a lot of realignment, but she might want to get one ear "pinned" later on. It sticks out from always having been folded forward when she laid on that side.

So, I guess I really don't have an answer for you. Any of you graduates out there with some wisdom to share???

Subject: Misaligned ears

From: " P." <palmerkimberly@...> Hi, everyone. This whole thing is new to me, and my eight month oldwill receive her band in apx. 1 week. I was wondering if anyonecould tell me if it will help realign her ears. One of them is about1 inch closer toward her face than the other. I'm a nervous wreck, and just hope I'm doing the right thing for her. I would appreciateany input.

Kimberley--

Our son wore a helmet for almost 9 months but by the end, his ear alignment

was much improved. (He was off by at least an inch, maybe more). And his

forehead protrusion almost disappeared. His head is not perfectly round, but

whose is? It is a vast improvement over where we started.

Good luck.

We don't have out band yet, but have been told that Hanna's ears will never

PERFECTLY align, nor will her head be PERFECTLY round.

Who want's a PERFECT head anyway?? Not me. Just like I

wouldn't want big, white, "chicklet" dentures if all my teeth fall out

either!!!!!! :) :)

All I know is that Hanna's condition will be GREATLY improved when

she's finished treatment.

Sue,

Here is my two cents. My orthotist said that the ears were the hardest thing

to correct. He said something about the muscles coming from the ears connect

to somewhere in the neck. Changing the shape of the head doesn't necessarily

change the positioning of the ears, but it can. Many people here have had

good luck with the ears realigning. I must say that we have had very little

change in the ear misalignment throughout our 3 months in the helmet. We are

still hopeful that we will get a little more correction, but we are ready to

accept that they may always be slightly misaligned.

Hope this helps.
