Guest guest
Hi , I substituted pull-ups with a barbell and two high step toppers with multiple risers. You could also use two chairs if you don't have two club steps or two club step toppers and extra risers. Place the barbell (no plates) on the seated part of the chairs or raised steps and voila! instant pull-up station. I learned this trick from Mindy Mylrea at a saracity event. > > I know some of you have done this without a pullup bar. Tony mentions some kind of special device to do the pullups with a band but in a quick look at the BB site I can't find it. What do you need and can I get it from somewhere other than BB if I want to get it? I watched Chest & Back yesterday and while it certainly looks very tough, I don't feel totally intimidated, mostly excited about trying but I don't have a pullup bar and don't want to spend $60 on one either. I still have to watch to other videos, hopefully will have time next week. > > >

Basically what he's talking about is a tiny doo-dad that is a lump on one end of a strap with a loop or ring at the other end. You lay the strap over the top of a door, the lump hanging down on the opposite side, and close the door. Your elastic tube goes through the loop. They're really cheap online alone (search for tubing door anchor) or sometimes you can find them bundled with a set of tubing at Target or the 'marts. A decent substitute is to put a sturdy hook high on the wall (or even into the ceiling if you can hit a stud) and run your tubing through a carbiner put over the hook. The pullup bars that fasten with screws into the door frames from the mass marketers aren't that expensive ($30 or so?) and the one I got will support my hubby who's about 260. Yeah, you'll have four screw holes in your door frame, but they're easily fixed with a dab of wood putty and some paint when you're ready to take the thing down. Guest guest
Hi , What I did was I hung a reistance tube over a hook that was in the ceiling of the unfinished part of my basement. That worked pretty well. The tubing I have included handles and you could hook up to three pieces of tubing into the handles (I got this at Target) so you can start with one piece of tubing, then add another piece, and another piece as you get stronger. Guest guest
If you surf the web for HOMEMADE WORKOUT EQUIPMENT you will find many plans to make your own equipment including a free standing pull up bar. I plan to make one out of scrap wood I have. But I did find other designs to put in your door, shutting it and the door works as the brace if you prefer the "cord" style. Guest guest
I'm having a hard time picturing the tubing. Is this 3 pieces all connected together? I'll have to look at Target's tubing next time I'm there. I have some with handles that I got from the 6 Day Makeover kit (I got part of the kit as a group of freecycle exercise stuff, kept the tubing and got rid of the rest of the 6 Day Makeover stuff, not my style) and one with handles that I won at my kids' school, that one loops in the middle though. I'm new to tubing though and still working on figuring out how to use it effectively. P90X pullups Date: Saturday, May 9, 2009, 9:46 PM I know some of you have done this without a pullup bar. A decent substitute is to put a sturdy hook high on thewall (or even into the ceiling if you can hit a stud) and run yourtubing through a carbiner put over the hook. The pullup bars that fasten with screws into the door frames from themass marketers aren't that expensive ($30 or so?) and the one I gotwill support my hubby who's about 260. Yeah, you'll have four screwholes in your door frame, but they're easily fixed with a dab of woodputty and some paint when you're ready to take the thing down.Tess

Guest guest
, You might check to see if their is a Freecycle group near you or check craigslist for a pull up bar. Big kudos to you for even thinking about it. We have two pull up bars in the house and I RARELY use them. I have to jump my self up. I just did overhead presses with heavy heavy weights whenever Tony did the pullups. Something else I need to work on...... And yes, don't be enabled to buy before you try because I'm so not in a hurry to have it back. You could keep it for a year and I probably wouldn't even notice. a > > Place the > > barbell (no plates) on the seated part of the chairs or raised steps and > > voila! instant pull-up station. > > this is what i would do. although i do not have a barbell, so i > would use some other very strong, thick-ish, piece of dowling or > a handle from something. dh has a metal handle that he attaches > to some sort of concrete tool, so i would probably try to use > that, placed across the seats of 2 sturdy chairs. > :*carolyn. >
