Guest guest
Dianna, I am so happy to hear your little one only had 3 casts!! What was her curve when you started casting? Drue started at 40* and got great correction in cast one. We get cast two off April 6, and our dr. mentioned if we got good correction, he may move into a brace. I am terrified about that, although the thought of brace for summer sounds great! I worry we may stop casting too soon, but to hear stories of others having success with only a few casts makes me feel good. and JimmyMommy and daddy to Grace, 10, Tryston, 4, Drue, 1, cast #226* out of cast, down from 40*, 15* in cast #2St. Louis Shriners Hospital From: Tasha Fontenot <ryanswalk@...>Subject: Re: Re: Question about post-cast developmental delays- TASHAinfantile scoliosis treatment Date: Tuesday, March 23, 2010, 8:23 AM I have never noticed, but you can bet I will be looking more closely today. Most kids Noah's age seem to run bending sort of like track runners, but Noah does not bend - he is standing straight up and down while running. Does that make sense? This seems to bother my husband more than me. He brings it up every time that Noah is at a playground and all of the other preschoolers run differently than Noah. I think it's just because he's been held in a cast/brace for almost 3 years now and he's used to being forced into that straight up and down position. Just curious if others have this issue. Perhaps I'll bring it up next time we see his doc. I don't imagine there's much they can do though. ~Noah 4 1/2 years old9 months of casting in SLC; Currently on 2 years of bracing at 6* in braceAnd Mariella 12 months old - resolved Infantile Scoliosis infantile scoliosis treatment @groups. comFrom: ryanswalk (DOT) comDate: Tue, 23 Mar 2010 05:36:55 -0700Subject: Re: [infantile_scoliosi s] Re: Question about post-cast developmental delays Dianna,I can't remember the age cut-off for ECI, but you may check into that. Early Childhood Intervention through the state of Texas. If you are not familiar with them they will come to your home and evaluate her and if need be come to your home for therapy. And you do not pay anything or a very small amount depending on income. That is who I went through for . Although he did not need professional PT they still gave me exercise to do with him at home.BTW is just now really jumping well. He will be FIVE years old in 3 weeks.'s doc did not think he even needed to be evaluated, but I thought after being in a cast for 14 months he might have weaker core muscles. ECI found that to be true, but it was not bad. The exercises they gave us to do did help and he was quickly doing the same as his brother. He still today remains to be a little weaker at some things, but no big deal for me. He still is a strong little boy. It doesn't hurt to have her checked out. If nothing else it will make you feel better and not worry. TashaMommy of 4 year old twin boys- and Fort Worth, TexasSeries of 6 casts for 14 months. Brace 10 months 23hrs a day. She hadnt used her core in some time while she was casted so maybe it just takes a while to develop that strength.
