Guest guest
Late on this post too, so please disregard if you have already heard this 80 times….. I am sure that the docs there have been casting for over 30 years. Please confirm with them that they will be using the correct sized, 3-dimensional casting frame and that they understand the principles of Dr. Mehtas Early Treatment Method w/ EDF (elongation, derotation, flexion). Also, confirm that they will be trimming the proper windows in front/back. Most orthos in the US have been trained/exposed to Risser casting only (maintenance casts) and my goal in writing this post is to help you clarify the differences between techniques with your docs, so you can be sure that you are seeking the best treatment for your babe and can utilize the window of opportunity, if indeed she is a candidate…. Good luck and let us know. MRI results not good! We are seeing Dr. H. I originally wanted to get in to see Dr. P, but he reassured me on the phone the other day(he is who actually called with MRi results b/c Dr.H is out of town) that we made the right choice to go w/ Dr. H. He has been casting kids for over 30 years and was casting before the surgical method was even thought of. I feel comfortable with him b/c he is very proactive and is the first doctor we've seen that actually recognizes the seriousness of his curve. All of Jonas' x-rays since he was 12 months have been taken standing up. But Dr.H also had them take some of him laying down bending so he could see how flexible is spine will be for casting. -Hollie > > > > Also, I am looking for the best pediatric neurosurgeon in the U.S. If anyone knows of someone please inform me!! Btw..I live southwest of Oklahoma City. My son is currently seeing doctors at Oklahoma Children's in Oklahoma City(this is the only place in OK that will even consider casting). > > Thanks! > > > > Hollie > > mother of Jonas 18 1/2 months > > 66.2 degree curve > > >
Guest guest
thank you for your insight. I am aware of all of this. I have done all my research on casting. That is why I am kind of in a pickle. I do not know much about the fluid in spine/tethered spinal cord issue > > > > > > Also, I am looking for the best pediatric neurosurgeon in the U.S. If > anyone knows of someone please inform me!!
