Is anyone doing these workouts? If so, how do you like them? My parents gave me a nice bank gift card and I am considering using it to buy at least the basic workout.

Thanks!

Hi Kathy

I have the Chalean Extreme program. It all depends what you are looking for in a

fitness program. The plus side of CLX: each workout is less than an hour long.

If you enjoy working out with Chalene then this program may be motivating for

you.

As an avid home exerciser I have one negative aspect to point out: I am in CLX

disappointed because Chalene has recycled choreography from her turbokick and

piyo lessons. I was hoping her ideas would be 100% fresh.

LMK if you need dvd breakdowns, exercise tracking sheets, etc. I can post it for

you or send them to you.

Kathy,I love CLX because all the workouts are closer to 30 mins instead of 1 hour.  I love Chalene, and her personality is very motivating and sincere, but I also own all the TurboJam DVDs and loved those too.  I could be biased though because TurboJam helped me lose 30 pounds and get back in shape.

The workouts themselves are different than anything I've done before.  They are slow, precise movements, and you really focus on pushing yourself to failure by the 10th-12th rep.  I remember previewing the DVDs before starting and thinking this wouldn't be too hard.  I WAS WRONG!  I'm in decent shape, and exercised on a daily basis before this, but CLX kicked my butt big time.  I was sweating and shaking by the end.

I think I'm one of the few guys that is doing CLX though, and I really disliked P90X for various reasons.  So YMMV.Noah

I would appreciate that. I have used all of her Turbo workouts from Beach Body but not her TK and PY workouts.

I love her TJ workouts from BB. I am looking for more heavy strength training rather than the many muscle endurance workouts I already own (Jari Love, Cathe, Debbie Seibers). Thanks for the info!

Hi Noah,

Can I ask what you didn't like about P90X, perhaps a comparison with that and CLX? I'm borrowing the P90X videos (finally watched Chest & Back yesterday, gotta watch the rest soon, and do the workouts too) and have a couple of CLX workouts to do too. I have to try those too. I'm interested in other people's experiences with both. Thanks!

I'll give it my best shot.  The biggest thing that bothered me from P90X was Tony Horton.  His jokes got old quickly, and he just grated my nerves.  I started muting the audio and just playing my own music for the whole hour or so.  I also never looked forward to doing it, ever, and it always felt like a chore.  It also felt very regimented and set in stone. 1 comment I got from someone else doing P90X was " I love it, but I hate it " .  I just didn't get it I guess, because I hated it.

CLX has been the total opposite for me.  I enjoy the shorter, 35 min workouts, and have no trouble waking up early or coming home from work and knocking them out.  It feels managable, and as long as I keep the calendar handy and schedule the 5 workouts a week I can pretty much plan my week without any problems.  On one of the videos or in the guidebook (I don't remember where) Chalene mentions that you will need to adjust this to fit your life, or it won't work.  I understand and appreciated that.  I guess I'm not one for over regimented things though either.  I'm the type to pick and choose what I like from a book or DVD and mix it up with other stuff I like.  I use my TurboJam, TurboKick, and other workouts for the cardio days.

I already " knew " Chalene from TurboJam, and I'm also TurboKick certified, I just don't teach anywhere.  So I was definetly biased, just wanted to make that as clear as possible.Honestly I think they are both great sets, and if you can borrow them from a friend to try out first I would reccomend that.  For whatever reason I just prefer CLX over P90X.  Hope all of that rambling makes some sense and helps you out!

Hi Noah,

If you're ever looking to get rid of your P90X set, I have a buyer! (me) *WINK* I borrowed it from a friend on another list about a year and a half ago and I enjoyed it. I probably wouldn't necessarily do it is as laid out again - and I may sub other workouts, too - but I liked the workouts - that said, I also like Tony! Now that I'm better w/ doing push-ups I think I'd enjoy the program even more. I'd like to give ChaLEAN a try as well - but I think she uses a lot of compound movement - which I enjoy - but my back is still a bit too messed up to really be able to do safely at this moment! Thanks for your opinions. I like the idea of the shorter ChaLEAN workout times.

Take care,

Donna

I think you sold me on the set Noah. Do you have the advanced DVD as well or just the basic set. I would only need the DVD as I have quite a few resistance bands (Power 90) and weighted gloves.

I just didn't get it I guess, because I hated it.CLX has been the total opposite for me. I use my TurboJam, TurboKick, and other workouts for the cardio days.I already "knew" Chalene from TurboJam, and I'm also TurboKick certified, I just don't teach anywhere. So I was definetly biased, just wanted to make that as clear as possible.Honestly I think they are both great sets, and if you can borrow them from a friend to try out first I would reccomend that. For whatever reason I just prefer CLX over P90X. Hope all of that rambling makes some sense and helps you out!Noah

Thanks!

Re: Chalene Extreme

I was sweating and shaking by the end.I think I'm one of the few guys that is doing CLX though, and I really disliked P90X for various reasons. So YMMV.Noah

I just have the basic set.  I think the advanced just adds another 2 cardio workouts, another ab workout, and the bands and weighted gloves.  I already had the equipment, and figured I could just add in other DVDs for variety.

I think you sold me on the set Noah.  Do you have the advanced DVD as well or just the basic set.  I would only need the DVD as I have quite a few resistance bands (Power 90) and weighted gloves.

If you want it I'll give it to you for the cost of shipping.  Just email me at nws2002@... if you want.CLX does use several compound movements.  You are doing them in a slow, controlled way, but I can see how it could cause a problem if you have a back injury you are looking out for.

Take care,

Hi Noah,

This does help a lot, thank you very much for taking the time! I actually like Tony a lot but I like Chalene too (I don't do TJ at all though, I'm too dance-impaired for it). I like the idea of the shorter workouts too. I think, as you suggest, I'll try out what I have and see if either clicks with me for a long term commitment! Thanks again!
