Hi

Emma (2 1/2 yrs) also complains about tummy aches during episodes and

sometimes in between. I think it is normal to have stomach aches with

episodes and also you may get more of the syptoms as they get older. E.g. we

never used to get tummy aches, joint aches, swollen glands, just the fevers. Bit

by bit we got all of those. Still no mouth ulcers though.

Another thing is that apparently kids until the age of 5 or so, frequently say

they have tummy aches even if something else hurts. It's hard for them to

localise where the pain is and when they are just generally unwell they tend to

say it's their tummy.

If it persists I would still have her checked out though.

Hope this helps

Take care

Inga

I was just at the pediatrician with my son today. We always end up talking about

my daughters and he mentioned some new findings about abdominal pain being

a factor in something like 25% of the cases - but I don't remember the % he

used. He siad it is even more common than swollen lymph nodes. He also said he

now has about 8 cases of .

Definitely becoming more common.

Did he say if the stomach ache had to be during the episodes or could it

also be hurting in between?

My son gets it now and then after having had 2 or 3 spoons of food (havent

found any pattern in what food it is - one time: rice, peas and ground meat,

the other: oat flakes and milk. Food allergy suggestions are welcome!). Does

anybody else recognize this in their own kids?

, you have to remember that these are inflammatory disorders. These kids

will commonly experience swelling in the joints during an episode as well as

swelling in the lining of the stomach and swelling in the lining of the lungs.

To a young child, these can best be described as tummy aches but they are very

real and can be quite painful.

I have found the article and will send to Fran. It quotes 65% of these studied

had abdominal pain. The article is not that new - about a year and a half old,

but was published again last fall.

My son aged 9 has complained of getting stitches when he walks fast or

runs, during a fever episode he eats as little as possible with us

coaxing small amounts of bland food to try and keep his energy up a

little. He has never had a great apetite and has lost a weight going

from average to below 25% average weight in last 6 months.

Jeanette mum to fevering for 11 months.
