Guest guest
Hi Troy Complete removal of both tonsils and adenoids for us. But I can't report on success rate as of yet as it was only last week. Take care Inga
Guest guest
Troy, My daughter had a T & A on 12/11/07 - she was almost 29 months at the time. Her last fever was on 11/16/07 - so she has gone about 4 months to date, fever free. She had the standard cauterization method and they removed all of the adenoids and tonsils. However, I've heard of many cases (especially if the children are young) where the tonsils and/or adenoids can grow back. She is fever free, but amazingly the pathology indicated that while enlarged, the tonsils were not extremely in poor condition and not filled with much pus. She did however have red and enlarged tonsils and very enlarged lymph nodes with each high fever. Her fevers typically hit between 105-107 during an episode and untreated with prednisone lasted 4-7 days. They were not exactly cyclical. The ENT nor her Immunologist knows why the tonsillectomy would have worked, but she did have frequent ear infections as well - her ears had a tremendous amount of infectious fluid in them. The ENT indicated they were horrendous. However, she had high fevers for over a year with no drainage from her tubes. The fluid seemed to build up once the tubes came out. To the best of our doctors ability - they indicated . We have not been through genetic testing, but have ruled out the majority of other conditions that they felt were suspect. Hope this helps... Ginger Ginger Daughter - le, 2.5 years old (fevering since 7 months, diagnosed at 15 months, T & A on 12/11/07, fever free since 11/16/07) Son - Jay, 10 months old ----------------------------------------- ==================================================== This message contains PRIVILEGED and CONFIDENTIAL information that is intended only for use by the named recipient. Guest guest
Troy, 's T & A was done with a newer technique that does not involve any cauterization, but I believe there was still complete removal. The surgeon used a scalpel to remove the tonsils and then used Surgifoam instead of cauterization. I would highly recommend this method. 's recovery was so easy. It has been over two months now, and he hasn't had a fever, so we are very optimistic at this point. He's also sleeping well for the first time in his life and he's just a healthier, more energetic kid. Good luck with your decision. It is a very difficult one to make as a parent. -

Guest guest
After 2 1/2 years - he started to fever again - actually it was when he started kindergarten. We control it with ibuprofen and tylenol every three hours. He usually gets about 5-6 episodes at the beginning of the school year 3-5 weeks apart, lasting about 6 days each, but I haven't had to use the prednisone since a couple years ago and I am very thankful for that. Also, when he was younger, he would have seizures - he no longer does this. Instead, If his fever gets too high, too fast - he throws up. I'll take that over seizures! But that is also why we alternate the tylenol and ibuprofen. We see Dr Feder in CT. Evan is one of the few who has fevered after tonsillectomy - so please don't get discouraged. -Tara

Guest guest
My son fevered for 2 1/2 years (every 4 weeks for 5 days). We had a complete T & A when he was 3 1/2 years old. The Dr. said that his tonsils appeared to be normal when he removed them, but he has not fevered since! He has been fever free for five years, does well in school, and will get his 2nd degree black belt in May. We are especially thankful as we were very concerned about how the fevers would affect his development. I would highly recommend having the tonsils removed! Guest guest
I was glad to read this..my son has fevered for the last 3 years..he is almost 6..we have been using Cimetidine and that has helped lessen the effects of the fever..we are scheduled for the T and A on Tuesday and I am very anxious about putting him through it..I will hold out hope that the short term pain will end the cycles!!
