Guest guest
As may of you know, Dani went in for tonsillectomy on Tuesday. She came out of it fairly well. Luckily, we had planned to stay overnight one night - being so young we couldn't get her drinking right away, so the IV helped prevent dehydration. More on that in a future message (I'm just glad someone had recommended giving fluids via syringe - we get 15-20 ounces of pedialyte in her daily via syringe for now!) But my minute question is on Loritab. It is a mixture of Tylenol and Codeine (sp?). They don't want us to use Motrin for pain for risk of bleeding. So - we only have Loritab or Tylenol. Well, Dani hs been sweating some, but we thought it was just running slight fever and that breaking. But she also kept burrowing her head into us and scratching the back of her neck. Now she screams I come at her with a syringe (not good since she refuses to eat or drink anything - even ice cream which she LOVES!). Well, we noticed it has some cautions listed - like mood altering, sweating, itching. We are now wondering if she is having a reaction to the codeine. The past few doses of pain medicine, we've just give her Tylenol, which we've had to fight into her. This is a girl that eats EVERYTHING (especially lima beans and peas). She's always taken all medicine without problem - even cimetidine/Tagamet. Has anyone else had similar experiences with their kids (or themselves) with Loritab or Codeine? BTW - our ENT indicated all the pain medications taste horrible, but this was the best of them. He recommended mixing with chocolate or rootbeer. He equated it to drinking lighter fluid. The Tylenol seems to be enough for now. I think we are on Day 5 tomorrow (not sure if you count surgery day) and she seems to be in far less pain now. But if it gets worse in a couple of days when the scabs start coming off - I'm open for suggestions on what to do. Thank you.
