Hi, Penelope welcome to the group. You will find a lot of good people that don't mind when you vent. It is great that you have family for support but when you need to vent and you don't want for family to catch it vwnt here. LMay from Kansas

Hi, I'm Penelope.I've only been diagnosed with MS for less than a year but boy has itbeen a long year. I know that I have had it longer then when I wasdiagnosed because of things that happened previously. I am on aclinical trial for fingolimod which is a pill. I am in the 3rd stageof the trial. I officially started receiving the drug in May of thisyear. A little about me.I'm originally from Gulfport, Mississippi but I have been back andforth from coast to coast. My travels began when I joined the US AirForce. That took me from Texas, to California, back to Mississippi, then last stop in Georgia. After that I left the service to move backto California to become an actress. Los Angeles was interesting to saythe least. Hollywood turned out to be too much like high schoolpolitics so I decided I was done. Before I could leave, however, I metmy soulmate. I stay a year longer and then

we moved to Tennesseetogether. It has nice weather and is a lot cheaper. After a year here in TN, I was diagnosed with MS. This really makesyou sit down and evaluate your life. You realize you may be doingthings that don't make you happy or fulfilled. I decide I was going topursue my dream of writing and inspiring people. My first book is dueout in Dec. It is a dating guide for guys. That one is for all theguys who told me all my life I should write all my advice down. Thesecond is due out in Feb 2009 and is an inspirational and humor bookabout cats. It's meant to make you laugh and smile. I also have manymore ideas for more books. It just seems to flow which makes mebelieve even more that I am on the right path in life.I started a blog to track my study and my life with MS. http://penelopesmit hlivingwithms.

blogspot. comMy future PlansAt the moment is to write more books and build a house back inMississippi near my parents. Having a chronic condition is so mucheasier when you have a support system. There isn't much of one here, and it can sometimes be difficult when my husband has to go to workand my daughter has to go to school and I need help too. So we decideto move there. I also will be on this study for another year and a half.PenelopePenelopsmithbooks. com

wow, Penelope!!

Great to have such wonderful revised plans for the future, already!

Too often I find that my time has just evaporated.

I've asked one of my friends to submit a 'cat piece' to you..

And re your upcoming new house.

You might want to see this magazine for some of the adaptations that might serve you well later, and are better to incorporate in your building NOW. http://www.specialiving.com/ Though it is mainly directed to folks with major disease limitations, I subscribed when first diagnosed with M.S.

Thanks. My family usually doesnt mind. I am usually just venting on

test days, because the trial I am in is 3 hours away so I have a full

day of tests and I have to leave 2 and half hours early so Im usually

tired and hungry all day and they are too so we all gripe together. lol.

Thanks for the link. We are building because it is cheaper to put in

the stuff in the first place then to redo it after the fact. We are

putting in custom showers since I cant really do baths anymore, so we

are using that space for a vanity so I can sit down and dry and

straighten my hair. Plus we want to put one of those water heaters in

that are coils that heat the water instantly as it comes across it

instead holding it and heating it. Its more energy efficient and being

on well water during the winter makes for very short showers. Maybe

its not well water, maybe its all water, but it comes into the heater

super cold, so you get a small amount of warm water before it out

because it has to reheat the freezing cold water. You do good to wash

your hair. Well a girl anyway. Its a 3 step process for me.

Hi Penelope,

are you going to have one of those showers you can 'roll' into too? in the event that that happens....

and oh, maybe I also saw an infomercial where you open a 'door' and almost sit as if in a chair, I think.

Hopefully you'll not 'need' either, but one never knows.

yes, I saw an informercial re those systems that heat the water ONLY as used, rather than just having it hot all the time! Sounds like a great idea.

Is there also something available for helping doing your hair if your arms get weaker?

although 'doing your hair' is also good P.T.!

power to you! Jean

Thanks for the link. We are building because it is cheaper to put inthe stuff in the first place then to redo it after the fact. We areputting in custom showers since I cant really do baths anymore, so weare using that space for a vanity so I can sit down and dry andstraighten my hair. Plus we want to put one of those water heaters inthat are coils that heat the water instantly as it comes across itinstead holding it and heating it. Its more energy efficient and beingon well water during the winter makes for very short showers. Maybeits not well water, maybe its all water, but it comes into the heatersuper cold, so you get a small amount of warm water before it outbecause it has to reheat the freezing cold water. Its not for my arms but my legs. I get tired standing too long. I want

a vanity counter so I can sit at it close to the mirror. I have

cabinets as a vanity now and if I try to sit down, I am too far away

from the mirror.

Thanks. Hopefully the house will be done by summer. The land is being

cleared and I don't know how long that is going to take. My dad is

doing it so I can't complain.

Hi, Penelope I worked with a lady that had cp and her bathroom was tiled floor and walls with the drain in the shower area so that when she had a bad day there was nothing to worry about. She could wheel in or walk in there was no lip just a straight floor. She did have a seat in the shower that would fold up or down. And the slideing shower head. It was the best bathroom I have ever been in you wouldn't have to worry about the rest of the floor getting wet. LMay
