Prednisone had the same effect on my son, I do believe that in some cases, it

helps significantly, then just waylays the inevitable fever episode. How much

was he given in how many doses???

(4 1/2) is scheduled for T & A this friday.....wish you luck too!

Well I gave him 8mg on thursday. Then the same dose today,, I was originally

told by my ID doctor to give him 8mg first and second day of the episode but I

have only just been giving one 8mg dose at onset,,,And after asking everyone on

the board what they did, then I felt comfortable only giving one dose.and it

stoped the fevers. So Im not sure what happened this time around.

Hi Angie

The same thing happened in Emma's last episode. The prednisone stopped the

fever, it then came back low grade at first and then the 3rd day spiked really

high again so we had to give a 2nd dose of prednisone for the first time ever. I

had the pediatrician check her out first and he couldn't find anything wrong

with her. I was pretty sure it was still the episode anyway.

We had Emma's T & A almost 2 weeks ago and she has fully recovered now. So I'm

really hopeful that it will stop her fevers!

Will keep you posted

Take care

Inga p.s. a friend of mine has an asthma-child, 8 months of age. He was recently

put on a 5ml dose of prednisone (Emma, 3 in July, only takes 3.5ml!) for 2 weeks

straight! Apparently lots of asthma kids are on long-term courses of prednisone.

Made me feel A LITTLE better about the prednisone we have given Emma so far.

Hi Angie

Emma lost a little weight during the recovery period but not too much, about

0.5kg - we'll pick that up again quickly I am sure. She is eating well now.

We got the pathology report back. I don't understand half of the lingo in it BUT

the ENT said that there's nothing to worry about. Her tonsils were extremely

large (one measuring 2.6cm which is over an inch!) for such a small throat and I

think he was worried about malignacies at the time but the growths and fluid

inside are completely benign. So that's a relief! The pathology report also

diagnosed her tonsils with 'moderate chronic tonsillitis' which is interesting

seeing that we never had throat involvement in any episodes except one time, and

only two cases of tonsillitis in her life (she will turn 3 in July).

No pre-op labs were done on Emma.

We're glad to be over the recovery period and no matter what happens with the

fevers (although we are full of hope that they won't return) we are glad to have

done the T & A.

Angie,

I did want to comment that when le had her T & A she didn't eat

anything for a solid week (7 full days). She lost almost 3 pounds

(about 10%) - she was about 34-35 pounds when we took her in.

However, she did regain all the weight within 2 weeks and has had an

additional growth spurt. She's now about 38 pounds (gained an

additional 3-4 pounds in the past 4 months).

We had no pre-op labs, but Dani's tonsils were frequently red, sometimes

white spots, and her lymph nodes frequently noticeable without touching

them. The pathology report surprised us -- slightly enlarged, no pus,

average condition.... (not the actual words, but how it was described).

Her ears, however, had an AMAZING amount of fluid and pus (she also got

her second set of ear tubes at the same time).

However, since the T & A she has been fever-free for over 4 months

(just had her first fever last weekend - but the doctor said not a red

throat, we could not find any ulcers, and lymph nodes were not enlarged

--- my son also had a fever the week before, so likely a virus).

Ginger

Daughter - le, 2.75 years old

(fevering since 7 months, diagnosed at 15 months, T & A on

12/11/07, Fever-free since 11/16/07)

Son - Jay, 10 months old

Hi Ginger

Sorry to hear Dani had her first fever post T & A but so glad it didn't seem like

a fever! Just a quick question: How long did that fever last and did it

spike to -heights?

Take care
