Guest guest
We've never intentionally let the Tylenol and Motrin wear off - but have sometimes hit some pretty high fevers that didn't want to come down quickly. Her high was 108 (at about 4 in the morning about 4 hours after motrin or tylenol, I don't remember which right now). Also, after she'd had several fevers, they seemed to come on faster - such that the fevers would shoot up and it would take a while for the Motrin to bring down the fevers. They then lasted for 4-7 days with fever spikes up to 103-105 while on constant Tylenol/Motrin every 3-4 hours. Ginger Daughter - le, 3 years old (fevering since 7 months, diagnosed at 15 months, T & A on 12/11/07, Fever-free since 11/16/07) Son - Jay, almost 15 months old - no fevers
Guest guest
Hi Jenn For us the round-the-clock Tylenol/Motrin always worked well too. We used steroids because we felt that giving one dose of medication (steroid) versus about 25 doses (Tyl/Mot)Â in a full episode was preferable, plus the fact that the episode would be over within a few hours was a real bonus. We did however not feel comfortble with ANY sort of regular medication and therefore opted for T & A. So far no fevers, it's been nearly 5 months since the last episode. Guest guest
Hello Jenn, As far as administering Tylenol and Motrin we alternated the two every three hours so that there was always something on board. It worked great and kept the fevers down to the 102 mark (from 106). Actually we still use this method today if either of the boys have a " normal " fever. We tried the steroids to see if it broke the fever and we were told that was a good sign it was . We didn't base our decision for T & A just on that we had also had a lot of testing and met with many doctors. The steroid worked immediately knocking fever out but they did start coming closer together. Since T & A we have been fever free except for the usual cold, virus or ear infection. Hope this hepled. Guest guest
The steroids will basically stop the fever in about an hour versus piggybacking tylenol and motrin every 4 and 6 hours for four or five days. The problem most people report (not me although) is the fevers come quicker and thus the two edged sword. I personally think orapred saved our sanity, my little girls fevers were coming every 13 days so how much quicker could they get. Also remember when their on the steroid often times they still act like they would with a fever just with no heat(whiny, tired moody, lack of appetite. The steroid also helps keep them in their regular schedules with daycare, school, play etc. The tylenol and motrin keep on working but the doses of medicine to me gets mindless, I cant stand spooning that crap in every few hours(I always worry about the liver and kidneys). The steroid side affect issue was a concern but the specialist said that such a small dose once or twice a month is fine with no long term affects. My girls fevers have spread out now coming months apart so we are not going the T/A route, were hoping she just outgrows this nightmare and we can hold it against her when she becomes a snotty teen. Good luck and prayers.. Steve, dad to Randi 4.5 and her pesky twin brothers Mikey and Mitch 2 .
