Guest guest
Welcome to the group Charlene, I'm Helen, 57, from NW Ohio... There are many wonderful folks on here that suffer from varying ailments, a lot of them with what your Mother suffers with, hopefully when they are up to it they can give you an idea of how they are coping with theirs... We also have many caring care givers on here also that have loved ones that they care for and need an outlet for support too... Please keep us updated and also venting on here is good for each one of us too as to getting through the stress of our days... I live 391 miles awayfrom her. I have been commuting to her hometo see about her. (My sister lives with her but shetoo has many health issues).I am at my wits end in trying to figure out a dietplan for her. In the beginning, I felt that throughher Doctor I would be given the appropirate literatureon her different diagnosis. However, keep in mindthe town she lives in has only 325 people in it.The town that her Doctor is located in has 4,600people in it. I just returned from her home a fewdays ago dazed that just now has her Doctor's officebegun the process of getting online. I KNOW!!! The brochures available are next to nothing. The nurselooked at me kindly and said *we just do not have any due to cost of printing/coping/etc*. OH MY ! I go over everydetail of my mothers insurance bills etc. Surelythey can afford to have LITERATURE with some oftheir prices ! ok ok..I will calm down. Whew..now that I have rattled off endlessly, I willask for help in a diet plan. Where to go to get helpif it isnt available here. Mom's health issues:COPDGOUTHIGH BLOOD PRESSUREHIGH CHOLESTEROL RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS ENLARGED GALLBLADDER/GALL STONES (we are currently awaitinga surgery date to remove both of these)TAKES COUMIDIN along with tons of other medicationsI am extrememly grateful for any help. I check my emaillate in the afternoons (I have a 17 yr old/6yr old/a disabledhusband and just recently my step son 26 and his wife 27have moved in with us) I need all the support and prayers/positivethoughts anyone has time to offer upward. When I go tomy mom's house, I will post it on the board because shedoes not have internet ( I know ya'll aren't shocked to hear that :)As far as I know (unless an emergency arises) I will notbe returning to my mom's until the surgery date. In the meantime,I am looking for recipes that will cover all of thesehealth problems. I keep thinking that if I visit the online Mayo Clinic / WebMD/ Heart Association pages that someonehas designed a program where you can enter all of your diagnosis'and it will customize a diet plan for you but obviouslyif it is out there it is well hidden. I have askedmy mom about her insurance, whether they pay for diet classesand she said they pay for diabetic classes (which in my cityis offered every Tues/Thur night for free). I have been there and they did not really offer more than I had alreadyfound online. When I talked to the lady about all ofmom's other issues she said well most of it isnt thateasy you kinda have to experment with foods...WELL, I boutfainted. I am sure there is a lot of truth to that..becauseI know that everyone's system is different etc but isnt therea basic guideline for all of these issues as well as recipes.I thank you all of listening to my grumbles and as tiredas I feel at this very moment I will probably re-read it tomorrowand feel completely embarrassed by my wordy ranting just knowthat I am an adult kid trying to figure out how and whats bestto feed mama because she cant stand long enough to cook anything, she is just in too much pain.Thank You Thank YouGod Bless You ALLhugs n love (in advance)~Charlene~ "When life's problems seem overwhelming, look around and see what other people are coping with.
