Guest guest
I have seen that kind of hate before (sniff, wail) and Lenny's right, the skinheads thrive on attention. Someone probably has to monitor the rumor-mongering going on there from time to time if it starts crossing over into really dangerous (hey, they are on the edge) territory. I'm grateful to Best for being the " filter " in case there's something worth noting (or really funny) going on. And I read WOMM and skinhead pro-hg posts on the message boards for related articles in order to provide retort or defense (not saying I'm good at it, just that I try) if needed. But no one should breath the fumes for too long. My dad spoke up for Title IX in the seventies and questioned the school board's sincerity towards instituting it and desegregation. He was a good speaker and was put on television. Oops. The result was that the president of the school board threatened a lawsuit, which was the equivalent of declaring a fatwah in that town. Our house was vandalized, our cat " disappeared " and my disabled (scoliosis) sister was thrown down in the snow at a crosswalk by some older kids, in front of school crossing guards, and threatened with rape at the age of nine. I won't get into my own first-hand weepy childhood woes beyond saying that I was amazingly resilient and I've come to believe that my resliency is finite and I try not to squander it. To qualify how extreme this community was, there were a lot of brown shirts packed up in basements there, left over from pro-nazi rallies in the forties. We were very happy to be " outsiders " in that and other senses and had a wonderful time with the other " outsiders " . The sad, indigestible, ironic thing about that experience with having bullies sicced on us by their socially capitulating parents is how the kids most in danger of being misfits themselves- the self- hating half-Vietnamese son of the abused war bride, the fat kid, the kid who wet his bed- paid for amnesty from the crowd by being the first to lead attacks on designated scapegoats. Sigh. So I don't read the ND blogs if I can help it. They're so *reminiscent*. The misfits grovelling for psychiatric amnesty to some omnicient, pretend authority by surpassing in viciousness, like cats trying to claw their way out of a bathtub; the singling-out; the ego-dystonia and projections; the sad degradation lurking underneath the aggression- all of it. Ugh. I know I'll get bogged down if I stick my nose in that ninth ring of smell too many times. I'm in this for the long haul and I want skin left for those rallies and hearings we'll attend as soon as we figure out all this biochem to save our kids. > > > > > > > > You know, I was just sitting here wondering where the outcry > was. > > > Remember back in the day when Frist tried to attach the lilly > > rider to > > > the homeland security bill. Guest guest
Jo Pike, Lori Mcilwain-the leaders of the lilly rider. The time and effort they put into leading that rally in DC. Are we burned out, tired? I don't know the answer-just thorwing it out. What is it we need here? More than letter writing to our reps? More than letters to the editors? More leaders like Jo and Lori and Amy and . We do know we need more response from thousands of families that we don't get. I know I'm just plain tired from one day of dental surgery with joshua--I make phone calls, I write letters to reps, I write leters to the editors here every month. I respond to crappy articles that other jerks write. It's not enough. It just simply is not enough. Guest guest
Thank you for the kind words. Pointless rage and hate speech is pretty gaseous, isn't it? I guess some of us aren't the " know thy enemy " point-guard types and can only do ND reconnaissance detail in short shifts. We can offer other things. Again, thank God for Best and our other skinhead interpreters. > > I SO appreciate your writing style. > > But no one should breath > > the fumes for too long. > > I've come to believe that my resliency is finite and I try not > > to squander it. > >
Guest guest
Maurine, I can't speak for Lenny, but I have a feeling that he would agree; This in no way was directed towards you, or people like yourself. You do everything you possibly can within your capacity. You are raising your grandchildren in a very admirable way, providing the treatment that they need, you attend rallies whenever possible, and as you said, you call, fax, and write in on every issue that is important for the wellfare of your grandbabies. Don't think for a second that you need to do more than what you are doing right now! This is one problem: We need more people to step up to the plate and do what you are doing. If everyone in our community just took a few minutes out of their day to respond to the issues instead of arguing due to egos and petty things, imagine what could be accomplished. Just as important, we need transparency from those that take action and claim to be representing our children. > > > > You know, I was just sitting here wondering where the outcry was. > Remember back in the day when Frist tried to attach the lilly rider to > the homeland security bill. Guest guest
thanks, and I know he didn't mean me . I just feel like i don't do enough .. I remember that Lilly rider rally. I drove up to DC with jo Pike and I also remember the energy we had back then-the feeling we were doing to change things-the excitement. Maybe all these years of so much defeat again and again takes its toll. Or perhaps it's just my exhaustion after a day of being at the hospital with joshua-I don't know(or perhaps my age?????) I just feel so frustrated tonight and I so know what Lenny is talking about. I also know that we are breaking ground with jenny and in other ways too. But the whole political picture is so damn frustrating. ok so i am venting tonight. Cannot help it. Guest guest
After reading the posts on this thread I recognize how challenging this is. In order to be effective I think we all need to collaboratively focus our efforts on a few issues, even if one is a out of state bill. We are spread to thin and can't drive important issues to completion in most cases. We simply fail at the political process in most cases because we are unorganized and have not inspired and motivated those tired parents, who are focused on their kids to dig a little deeper for the greater good of ALL of these kids and families. What we need from this thread is proposed ideas and debate or discussion with a action plan on those ideas. If we cannot do this we might as well call this list the GFCF cookie recipe group. People on this list and the a- champ list have been successful at passing state legislation that is needed for our kids safety and futures. If you are unsure of how to start, reach out to them. I will close with a reason to take action. The man that killed 13 year old Carey(ASD) in Albany NY was convicted yesterday. A few folks in the autism community in NY helped passed s Law which Gov. Spitzer signed a few weeks ago. I sat through and was fortunate to testify at this hearing regarding my own childs physical abuse and the problems with a overall lack of accountability at all levels. Maybe I should post the Careys testimony on how their child was beat black and blue on both sides of his body and had food with held for 5 weeks! There was not a dry eye in the room, including all the men, senators and aides. As I was horrified listening and looking at the graphics in the presentation and though " We cannot allow this to happen to our children " This law opens the flood gates to the corruption in NY state regarding children with disabilities. Before this law was passed parents of children in state institutions did not have any access to the childs medical records. OUR KIDS ARE BEING KILLED BECAUSE TOO MANY DO NOT SEE THE PRIORITY IN THE POLITICAL PROCESS. MAYBE VACCINES ARE NEXT, BUT, HAVE YOU ALL CALLED YOUR CONGRESSMAN ON HR 2832 MALONEY? I was hoping you would not think you had to hold my hand...I don't have any hands free; I'm too busy holding my 3 injured children's hands along with other parents' hands who are stuck in the quicksands of crisis because their children are still really sick.Perhaps I'm naive, but I still do not believe everyone knows who A-CHAMP is. Or what the acronym stands for. Now, will A-CHAMP or anyone else be putting out an alert for action on the NY philosophical vaccine exemption bill so we can help you quickly and effectively? Who else needs help in other states? Speak up! , do you need help now nationally with your state? How much money does A-CHAMP need each person to donate? Because I'm not selling damn t-shirts, or pins, or magnets. And there's no way in hell I can get out of the house to go on a cruise for a good cause. How much does MAM need? How much anyone else? How much does ARI need? Does ASA not help them?Thank you again for taking the time to respond to my questions.AlisonEOHarm From: allprint@...Date: Thu, 11 Oct 2007 17:56:53 +0000Subject: Re: Environment of Harm? 1) www.achamp.org we all know who a-champ is and how to find them. Please take the initiative to visit their site! 2) google maloney hr 2832.....there it is! Take initiative 3) s law and Careys death is the wake up call that our kids are dying and we are silent. A philosophical vaccine exemption bill in introduced in the assembly and senate in NY needs to be passed and in other states as well. Search your state house search engines on autism related legislation. Find the autism friendly legislators in both parties. Take initiative, be proactive. It's as simple as a search engine. 4) a-champ needs help and is the best structure we have in place for a political movement. Liz Birt had great wisdom and vision with this. I am going to let someone else take this to see if anyone cares to step up to the plate! Thanks , I was not willing to 100% hand hold on your questions, because people need to take initiative and be proactive for this to work. > > > > > > > > > > > > You know, I was just sitting here wondering where the outcry > > > was. > > > > > Remember back in the day when Frist tried to attach the lilly > > > rider to > > > > > the homeland security bill. Guest guest
- You know how this all starts? Group home placement for 4-5 teens/20's type high functioning (possibily). They are on the internet all of the time and end up at these sites or one of the roommates happens there and invites the rest in the group home situation.Rox Best Jr <bettwice33@...> wrote: It's not about winning arguments with the sick minds. The fact that these young adults and teens are, in effect, taking sides against themselves is enough reason for me to bash the hell out of the Neuroinsane every chance I get. Guest guest
Well put , I totally understand Lenny's position. Forget the A-champ acronym, it's just a-champ for the sake of discussion. I don't have to hold your hand, you have 3 kids and manage to step up. The crux of the problem is apathy. I am convinced when people step up and win small victories at their state levels they will realize what can be done. We need money, but, we first and foremost need a base of proactive people. This list doesn't have enough people willing to do the work required to solve the problems they come on here to bitch about. I wish we had a list rule of no complaining without a proposed solution or idea to deal with it effectively. The parents don't have much money, but, we all have phones and internet access. The money cannot reasonably expect to come from the parents, especially those who frequent DAN doctors and pay by draining retirement accounts, selling assets and taking out loans. Maybe the next time you buy that $5.00 coffee, instead opt for the $1.00 coffee and spend the $4.00 on your favorite autism charity. We are that poor as a community! We can do a lot with determination, phones and our computers. We have done it and a few determined brave people continue to do it. It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds. ... > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > You know, I was just sitting here wondering where the outcry > > > > > > > was. > > > > > > > > > Remember back in the day when Frist tried to attach the lilly > > > > > > > rider to > > > > > > > > > the homeland security bill. Guest guest
Maurine, we all have to vent sometimes. It sounds like you are doing what you can in the midst of taking care of your grandchildren. The care of yourself and your children is of utmost importance. Thanks, a From: EOHarm [mailto:EOHarm ] On Behalf Of Maurine Meleck Sent: Wednesday, October 10, 2007 10:28 PM EOHarm Subject: Re: Re: Environment of Harm? thanks, and I know he didn't mean me . M King <medfordkings1 > wrote: Maurine, I can't speak for Lenny, but I have a feeling that he would agree; This in no way was directed towards you, or people like yourself. Guest guest
Who told you about my occasional nasty Starbucks habit?!!! I just read "Skinny Bitch", so it's gotta go. Okay, very good. But why are you and I the ONLY ones discussing this? People, jump in. Hello, is this mike on?I'll tell you a little secret about the key to a proactive base. Optimism training. I had a bit of it along with having the privilege to witness state victories due to Amy Carson's and Medlin's hard work in NC in addition to having some local and state victories re: education issues. I think we parents lack confidence due to lack of experience. Just like we need talking points for each issue, we probably need "quick and dirty cheat sheets" for rules of engagement.AlisonEOHarm From: allprint@...Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2007 01:15:01 +0000Subject: Re: Environment of Harm? Guest guest
Lenny and all, As a worker in the " field, " it is my job to till the soil, plant the seed, and tend the plants -- trusting that God will grant the increase as and when He sees fit. In addition, as NVIC states: >A young boy on the beach was throwing the washed-up >starfish back into the ocean. A stranger passing >by told him not to bother, because it would not >make any difference, there were thousands of beaches >and millions of starfish, and it would not be >possible to save all of them. The boy reached down, >picked up a starfish, threw it back into the ocean >and said, smiling softly, " I made a difference for >that one! " > my immediate goal is to make any difference that I am able to make - no matter how small -- and to keep doing whatever I am able until the goals set are met. Finally, remembering the lesson from an enemy, Ho Chi Min, I remember that we will win when the other side realizes that we are willing to fight forever no matter what the odds to get MERCURY out of ALL of medicine (and dentistry) in order to STOP the mercury poisoning that pervades our society in two areas where its use is TOTALLY UNNECESSARY and TOXIC to some degree to all who are so exposed. Hopefully, one or more of these messages will resonate and energize each reader to fight this fight as they preceive it with renewed vigor. Respectfully, Dr. King http://www.dr-king.com PS: While we may live in an " environment of harm, " we should strive NOT to become a part of this environment by remaining silent when we can speak out -- not matter how many or how few listen. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ At 23:52 10/10/07 -0000, schaferatsprynet wrote: > > >> some OTHER blogs....2 in particular that are FILLED with anger >> towards EOHarm list where they accuse and quote our list leader out >> of context, call names, twist us into parents who don't really care >> about our children, and twist and misinterpret the omnibus >> proceeding. Guest guest
Mike, With all due respect, this is good advice if you want something that it is within the politician's power to give you. It is not in any politician's power to go against the President, the CDC, the FDA and the industry that put most of the politicians in office. The people you are asking for help are the same ones who have already helped to cover up the crime that poisoned our kids and continues to poison babies all over the world. To stop this crime requires tactics similar to those used to stop the Viet Nam war and win Civil Rights. Being polite, professional and nice to criminals is not going to do any good. We have tried the letter writing and the demonstrations that were never covered by the media. We have to take advantage of the media that is available to us, the internet. If we could organize parents to publicly embarass the politicians in any way possible with a concerted effort of positive propaganda, perhaps we could also organize a demonstration large enough that it couldn't be ignored. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > You know, I was just sitting here wondering where the outcry > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > was. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Remember back in the day when Frist tried to attach the lilly > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > rider to > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > the homeland security bill. Hey, don't many of our kids need the same (as mentioned above)? On my own part, I don't right now have the time to chase down any politicians, but in the past, I have written letters to various newspapers ( many of which were published) and have encouraged others to do the same. I have also tried to share interesting and informative articles here and elsewhere on other list groups. I don't think any of us should be feeling chewed out for not being as "proactive" as we could be (or "should be") and for not doing things some of us might not have felt comfortable doing. We all have contributed to this Evidence of Harm/Environment of Harm list group in some way that has been beneficial to the group,...hell, most of us are still here, ready and willing to read more from other listmates. Doesn't that count for something? We might not all be the shakers and movers with the government, but that does not mean that our presence here is useless. We need the little mice here, to plant the seeds of thought or at times, discontent, and encourage others to think of the possibilities. I don't think anyone should be making any of us feel bad if we are not knocking on the doors of our government representatives, as many of us are spending COUNTLESS hours/days/etc. on this listgroup just sharing pertinent information, stuff that we do not see written in our own local news. Once we have our base secured here, perhaps then more of us will be ready to move on to other objectives. Some years ago, I attended meetings where parents were trying to get government-funded ABA/IBI therapy for their school-aged children. I had no personal stake in this, as my own son was already past the age that ABA would have been offerred to him in a government-funded program. I just hoped that I could learn something from these parents and their efforts to get funded therapy for their children once they begin school. Lenny, I hope that you are reading this. Please don't abandon us yet, even though you may be getting a bit ticked off with lack of people making a difference at a state/national level,...most of us have to work this stuff out for ourselves first! Of all the list groups I have belonged to, this is still my favorite! I have learned more from all of you in the past few years than anywhere else! I hope that this list group will survive, Aasa Alison <helloknitty@...> wrote: Who told you about my occasional nasty Starbucks habit?!!! It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds. ... > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > > You know, I was just sitting here wondering where the outcry > > > > > > > was.> > > > > > > > > Remember back in the day when Frist tried to attach the lilly > > > > > > > rider to> > > > > > > > > the homeland security bill. Guest guest
I disagree with much of your " easy activism " and this post and i'll tell you why. WE ARE A NATION OF LAWS and the political process is essential to improving the injustices we describe and fight for/fight about on these lists. It sucks, it's ugly, it's corrupt at times, etc. On a previous post on this thread there was someone stating " we will never get a vac vs unvac study, yet there is a new bill in congress to do just that. It has 11 co-sponsors. I got two of those, one in my district, one 5 miles away. NY 20th and 21st district. This was accomplished with very little effort. These attitudes are cancerous to motivating our community to pass this legislation we all want so we can prove or disprove the vaccine hypothesis. Autism related State legislation has been passed throughout the country, by the efforts of a very small handful in each state. What I believe what many of us fail to recognize and take advantage of in the political process is that a state legislators are much more accessible and that a very large percentage of them have a family member, friend, or staffers family dealing with autism. I learned this and was able to work with some of these people to collaboratively get legislation passed. They are your inside champions and will help you navigate the shark infested waters of your legislature. I personally don't see the letter writing as effective compared to picking up the phone and talking to staffers, yes staffers! Because the state legislators have about 20,000 bills come across their desk every year they rely on their staff. If the staffers best friend or family member has a kid with ASD we likely have a co-sponsor in many cases or a sponsor on a new bill. The staffer is your best salesperson in many cases if they have a personal connection with ASD. Your tactics will not work when 10 of us show up. You and what army ? I understand your frustration with the political process. Please keep in mind that DEMOCRACY IS NOT EASY! My view is that change will have to emerge from the states and will a little collaboration and more effort these state bills are very attainable. Been there, done that, I've seen it work. The list if tips was developed by Cellini, a lobbyist and mom of a child with autism. If we had 50 people in each state willing to work 2.5 hours a month (less than 5 minutes per day) we would be very effective. Blowing off the political process is not going to solve these issues. I agree with you in many ways on Washington,, but, has everyone called their congressman on hr2832? You make a great case for us to create a large PR campaign. I say we means test it at the state levels first. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > You know, I was just sitting here wondering where the > outcry > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > was. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Remember back in the day when Frist tried to attach the > lilly > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > rider to > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > the homeland security bill.
