and Singulair Update

Hello

My apologies for the long post - but sometimes I find this to be my only outlet

to deal with the frustrations of these fevers!

Just a quick update on my son and the use of Singulair. We have just completed

month two of Singulair and he actually started his fever the same day. My

husband and I are somewhat disappointed, as we had such high hopes for

Singulair. When my son first started on the drug, we actually went an extra 11

days between fevers, which to us was a miracle!!! Unfortunately, the last two

fevers have been somewhat closer together(I should note however, that with his

last fever, the Dr. believed it could have been an ear infection and was

on antibiotics).

Before starting Singulair, 's fevers were every 24 days and with the last

two fevers on Singulair(minus the first one that we had 11 extra days) they have

been 19 days and 21 days. I asked the pharmacist why we had such luck with the

drug when he first started compared to now and he said that the initial immune

booster that the Singulair could have caused allowed him the extra fever free

days. He stated that eventually, we may want to take him off of the Singulair

and then give it to him again perhaps a week or so before his anticipated fever

and see if we gain some more fever free days. He then mentioned, like others on

this site, that Singulair can take some time to work, so we will try another

month or so before we make any potential changes.

We are just disappointed to see him fever again without any extra healthy days.

Like everyone else on this site, it just breaks your heart to see your child

suffer through another fever episode.

But, we will continue to stay positive and hope that the interval between the

next fever is longer!

Regards,

Mother to 2 - fevering since 8 months.
