Well, after a lot of thinking for several months and then some in-depth

conversations with several doctors, we've decided to schedule a T & A with

possible re-inserting of ear tubes on 12/11.

We know it is a huge step, but feel that it is definitely worth a try. Our

daughter has been using Prednisone for fever episodes for about a year now. We

first used 10 mls (a 2 ml/kg dose). And the fevers went from ever 35 or 40 days

to every 12-14 days. She also started getting VERY aggressive - hitting and

acting wild. We then reduced the amount of Orapred to 5 mls (a 1 ml/kg dose) -

and then just 3 mls and the fevers started to spread back out a bit to 25-35

days, but she was still a bit aggressive, usually 2 days after the fever broke.

We used Tagamet for 4 months, but no noticeable change.

She has all the classic symptoms, red strep-like thraot with negative throat

cultures, apthus ulcers, and enormous lymphnodes.

She's a bright, funny, little girl and I hate medicating her so much. We realize

this may not solve her issues, but our pediatrician put the odds between 30-60%

- knowing that there hasn't been a ton of studies, nor good tracking of

statistics.

We did learn a lot more about the procedure that made me more comfortable. The

old rule of weighting until after 3 years old was prior to cauterization. They

used to lose 5-7 ounces of blood during the procedure. Now, it is closer to 1-2

ounces. So, having a larger daughter helps us now (37 inches and 35 pounds at 28

months).

Well, thank you for listening. I'm sure I'll second guess myself during the

recovery period, but I strongly felt we needed to give Dani a shot at being done

with this mess.

Please say a quick prayer for us over the next few weeks.
