Guest guest
I don't know if this counts, but my son had his first episode in March then didn't have another until July. From July onward he was very predictable. Ironically in March we were on vacation and it was much warmer there than at home. I never thought of the temp relationship until you mentioned it. 's ped was convinced the March episode was related to the , but his ID said no due to the time lapse. I'm convinced March was related as it was EXACTLY the same as his subsequent Summer/Fall episodes. Who knows why my son had a break though... It's just getting cold now so I guess we'll see if he gets another break. He's also just recovering from a head cold so between the two " colds " hopefully he'll get some relief! Guest guest
Yes, my son also used to have long breaks in the winter (October thru Feb/March). I have never heard an explanation as to why this happens, but living in hot, steamy Florida, I always attributed it to the milder weather. But that was just my opinion. Some on the board have experienced breaks in summer months too. Go figure! in Tampa, FL
Guest guest
Yes!! Absolutely. My son Zach had his first fever of 104 on his second birthday (June 18). He had about 5 more fevers between June and September of that year. Then, they stopped. I never figured out what they were, and I forgot all about them until they returned on his third birthday. He missed his party because he got another 104 fever. I spent the summer wondering what was causing these fevers. I suspected the lake water at cape cod, mosquitoes, mosquito repellent, staying up too late, and even constipation. During one episode his feet swelled up, which landed us in the office of a Rhuemetologist and started us down the path. In retrospect, we think he probably stepped on something in bare feet, but at least we are now headed in the right direction. We have standing orders for a blood draw to be done on his next fever episode. We need to rule out genetic disorders such as FMF. Zach was fevering every 21 days like clockwork. His last fever was September 22, but it was very mild. The fever part lasted only 12 hours, and it never went over 101. The next fever date came and went with one mouth sore, but no other symptoms. Last weekend he skipped again. I fully expect we will not see these fevers again until his fourth birthday, and I will be grateful if they never come again. We live north of Boston, so we definitely have a big temperature change in September and June. I don't know enough about to know if there would be a medical reason for this. I don't even know if we have , although the rest seems to fit pretty well. I was thinking about looking up one of the specialists whose names keep appearing on this list and asking if they have had any experience with seasonal remission. Otherwise I'm back to scrutinizing brands of mosquito repellent and sunscreen and looking forward to winter. Guest guest
Hi Ruthie We've also had one 12-week remission and 2x 8-week remissions earlier this year. Seasons seem to have nothing to do with it for us as we moved back and forth from South Africa and the UK during that time and the seasons are opposite. This was before we used Prednisone. When we started using it we went back to 3.5-week cycles and even one 2.5-week one. Now she seems to be in a remission again, last episode was 30th August. HOWEVER she has had 2 bouts of (mild) tummy bugs since and bad tonsillitis last week. I am wondering whether these other bugs (which are very unusual for her to pick up) have 'kept her immune system busy' so that the silly business didn't happen?! I have no idea. We're scheduled for a T & A on 28th November. Take care Inga, mom of Emma, 27 months
Guest guest
My son has not been fevering since June. It has been almost 5 months. We haven't been seeing our doctor since the last episode which occured in May, we are just enjoying the fact and trying not to think whether it is on a break or not. Guest guest
hi . no matter how many times my son has a fever during a month he allways gets a fever on his birthday ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
Guest guest
How often does the break occur?? and how long did it take for the docs to diagnose ? My daughter has not been diagnosed with or FMF and the febrile episode due last month did not occur. We are hoping it remains a " fever of unknown origin " and just disappears. We have been through a great deal of different tests and everything has been normal...I am wondering if this is a break or is it really gone... I pray it is gone...because although undiagnosed I cherish every day without fever...
Guest guest
Hi, For us the break occurs in the winter time for around 12 weeks. This has been the case in 2005 and 2006 (my son was born in May, 2005). And the fevers always came back to their 3-4 week schedule. I'm hoping we are enjoying another break now, he has been fever free almost 6 weeks. Of course we also cherish each fever free day. We've also been through many tests and procedures, and most everything has been normal. He had some immune issues in the beginning, when we first tested him at 18 months, (did not produce titers to pneuomococal (sp) vaccine), but he was re-tested and his immune system is now functioning properly. He was diagnosed with recently since all the tests are normal and the ID doctor cannot find cause for the fever.
