Guest guest
Never did....YOu can read about at post 6959. He just finally out grew the fevers. Every once in a while he still does have joint pain but not unbearable and it could also be because he competes so hard playing basketball and not releated to . He also still gets the fever blisters in his mouth...sometimes many at one time but he is so positive about it and refuses to put any medication on it. He says he can live with it as long as the fevers stay away. The best part about the entire thing is that he hardly ever picks up any other virus'. Not sure why that is but he has had his share of being sick. Dean Father of 15 1/2 Winter Park, FL > > > > I've not post in ages but for those that remember me i have an older > > child now 15 1/2. Guest guest
I would think twice about the T & A. Many have not had luck with it. Our doc did not recommend it. > > > > > > I've not post in ages but for those that remember me i have an > older > > > child now 15 1/2. Guest guest
Unless I have missed something in the last year T & A has not been proven to stop . It might work temporaly but comes back for most kids. Don't ever second guess yourself. It's an individual choice that we decided agianst. If it works for you.....I'm for it....but all the doctors involved with my son did not see a reason medically to perform it on . It is a decision that has to be made between you and your childs doctors. Dean > > > > > > > > I've not post in ages but for those that remember me i have an > > older > > > > child now 15 1/2. Guest guest
Thanks, Dean, for the encouragement! We've got a long way to go (Riley's only 12 months old now!) but it's nice to know there may be an end! Thanks for posting! > > I've not post in ages but for those that remember me i have an older > child now 15 1/2. We have finally hit the 2 yr mark since his last > episonde. Guest guest
My daughter had her tonsils out also. Her doctor did not recommend it because she had healthy tonsils and he said it was not a proven course of action. We decided it was minor surgery and was worth the chance to give her relief. It worked, her fevers did stop. She did have some mouth sores after and joint pain during what would have been fever episodes for a few months after but without the fever part, they were not bad for her. However the joint pain, mouth sores, etc. all went away too. She's now 7 years old and is feeling great. Tracey
Guest guest
She had her tonsils out the summer before she started Kindergarten. We wanted to see if we could try to stop the fevers before she started school. She is now in 2nd grade. She fevered during the first month after surgery and one more episode a couple months after that but then the fevers stopped. She did continue to get a little more emotional, complain of some joint pain, have a few mouth sores for a few months after surgery. I'm not really sure how long, I didn't really keep track because without the fever they were so managble. I did notice it was coming in a pattern. Those feverless symptoms would come and go for a while but I have to say in the last year we have not noticed any symptoms. I realize the tonsilectomy does not work for everyone but kids get them out every day and people really thought we were crazy after seeing everything she went to not to try it. Like I said before, her tonsils were healthy and the docs did not recommend it, so we went to another doc. Found a great ENT who said he's performed the tonsilectomy many times on kids with and all of them stopped fevering. He acted like it was a no brainer to try it. Good luck.
