Guest guest
Hi Hannah Yes... the cimetidine can cause and inflammation of the liver and cause the enzymes to elevate... so if you start the treatment you would check the enzymes every 3-4 months.... if ok continue... if they elevate you stop the medication and the liver will reduce to normal and enzymes back down to normal levels. This happens with numerous medications.... Guest guest
How come my Pediatrician and the infectious disease docs at Vanderbilt all said this was unnecessary? Guest guest
Hi, Not sure why the docs you see say this is not needed.... Fran Fran Bulone RN Mom to ph 7yr CIAS1 mutation 11/05; Dyspraxia 11/06 Waxhaw NC /
Guest guest
http://213.4.18.135:8080/26.pdf This is one article describing a study with cimetidine and similar drugs causing elevated liver enzymes. The docs not ordering a simple blood test are not the norm. Guest guest
They say it takes a VERY high dose on a daily basis for the liver enzymes to rise or liver damage. I will talk to them again when I go in. Re: Fran - cimetidine questions Hi, Not sure why the docs you see say this is not needed.... Guest guest
Hi again It is quite rare to see a chemical hepititis with Cimetidine however it is given at the highest dose for PFS and we have seen it here at least a dozen times... SO I would definitely want to check it... Maybe some of the parents are still on board here and can post about it... I remember one of the parents really upset and fearful.... but the baby's enzymes returned to normal within a couple of weeks of coming off the Cimetidine. Guest guest
Hi I just took Kianna in to get tested, I will get the results back on Monday, I will keep you posted. She is on 800 milligrams a day. I think that's pretty high.
