Guest guest
> Hi As far as Singulair - my daughter has been on it since late July (I think - my calendar is not here right now). She has only had three fevers while on it. The first was right when scheduled about a week or so after starting the Singulair. The nothing for a few months. Now she has had two episodes in what was her ordinary 3 week cycle. I talked to her pediatric rheumatologist and he has increased her dosage. It hasn't been 3 weeks since the previous fever but I am hoping that was the problem. (She went from half of a 4mg tablet once a day to a full 4 mg tablet once a day) As far as other symptoms - yes we still see them but they are not as severe. Even when the fever cycles came back they were 3 days at around 103 rather than 5-6 days at 105-106. We still see some fatigue (but about 25% of what she had previously) and irritability and occasional joint pain but the cycles are not regular at all. She never had the mouth ulcers so this is not a problem. Big difference was that she was one that would suffer from chronic diarrhea and had welt-like sores on her bottom and upper thigh. On singulair these disappeared. We recently had to go without for a few days (insurance glitch with the change of dosage) and we were fine EXCEPT the diarrhea returned within two days with the welts. Just an interesting observation for us. So for our daughter, the Singulair has been wonderful. No side effects and hopefully the dosage increase will help us out. If not, then I will probably post differently on our experience with Singulair. Guest guest
Hi, I saw your note on the site about singulair. Does your son have a diagnosis of ? If so, would you mind filling out the survey on singulair use for ? It is listed with the other files, under " data " . I am a physician caring for a little boy with , and I am trying to find out how many children with have tried using singulair and what the results have been. There has not yet been anything published on this in the medical literature. It seems that some children have a very good response to singulair, and some don't. If I can get surveys back from enough people who have tried it, maybe a pattern will emerge to help decide which patients would benefit from this drug. So far, only 3 people have replied to the survey. I am planning to publish the results of the survey, to at least make the medical community aware of this treatment option, but obviously the more families that participate in the survey, the more useful the information will be. Thank you Lierl M.D. ---- wasas98 <amiron@...> wrote: > To all of you that are wondering if Singulair works: > > We started giving him Singulair at the beginning of sept 06, 1 dose of 4 ml every day. > > His episodes before we started giving him Singulair were between 10-16 days apart. Guest guest
, so glad to hear Singulair is working for your son! I was excited to learn of Dr. Lierl's interest in its possible therapeutic benefits for children with periodic fevers and plan to complete her questionnaire. My son was prescribed Singulair (4 mg/day) for allergies over the summer that didn't respond to Zyrtec. We noticed a change in his fevers right away. At that time, Ben was fevering every week and a half for 2-3 days an episode with temps usually hovering around 103-104F. After just a few months on Singulair, Ben's episodes had moved to 19-21 days apart, temps around 101-102F, and a duration of 1 1/2 days each episode. Had a little setback this fall when he got strep throat from daycare. He fevered right after that, a week later got a 24-hour stomach bug, and promptly fevered again. His last fever episode, over Thanksgiving (of course!), was 14 days from the last one and much milder than the previous two episodes, so maybe we're starting to spread apart again. His pediatrician thinks it was just the illnesses that screwed up the fever schedule. Overall we're very pleased with what appears to be the connection between the Singulair and the decrease in frequency and duration in our son's episodes. Guest guest
My doctor finally prescribed singulair for Sami. We are going to start by just giving it to her at the next episode, so I will let you know how it goes. Trish --------------------------------- Everyone is raving about the all-new beta. Guest guest
Hi My son is also on Singulair. I will be responding to the doctor. My son is a little complicated though because he had for about a year when he was four. He grew out of it until now. He just turned eleven. He had four fevers about a month apart, which made me believe it was back. He started Singulair for allergies and the last fever he had was only two days. He was only on Singulair for two weeks when that happened. It's been six weeks and so far no fever. I don't know whether it's because of the Singulair or it's just going away again. I hope we have found something to help all these kids it would be so wonderful. Sue Webster
