Now my next dilema is How did you get your child to take the medicine??? I have tried putting it in her juice, milk and she wont drink it and I am not about to physically hold my child down twice a day and force it down her throat. I tried that yesterday and she gaged and spit it right out and cried so bad for the next 15 minutes. She is only 18 mths. any suggestions? How about asking your doctor if you can get the pills and crush them up in a spoonful of applesauce or ice cream? Thank goodness Sammy can now swallow pills, as she has always had a terrible time taking liquid medicines. More often than not she throws up. BTW, when we had her Rx filled, we ended up with Cimetidine tablets from two different manufacturers because that's what the pharmacy had. One of them had a green coating that would have make it difficult to crush, but the others are plain white tablets, so if you go the pill route, be sure to let the pharmacy know you plan to crush them so they can give you the right kind. Good luck! --Lori (mom to Sammy, 6.5, JRA/uveitis/??/ulcerative colitis??)
Guest guest
" How about asking your doctor if you can get the pills and crush them up in a spoonful of applesauce or ice cream? " Hello! Unfortunately this idea may not work either. Our pharmacist went over this with us well and Jonah only takes 1/2 a pills worth twice a day. The pills are not scored for splitting and thus are not split well. So we debated crushing versus the liquid. Crushing it and putting it in any food in MUCH worse tasting than the liquid. Believe me we crushed one and tried it at the pharmacy. I would stick with the liquid and just do the best you can. I get Jonah a cup of his favorite drink and then we put the medicine down and he chases it with his drink quickly. I think I'm lucky as Jonah is older and can understand more that he has to take it. Good Luck! I hope you find a way to do it without trauma. We've had to hold him down and force medicine in the past, sometimes it's just what you have to do to get it down it's better that than the sickness. Guest guest
, who I even had to fight with to take tylenol, does pretty well with the cimetidine. He takes a gulp of apple juice before and after taking the liquid. He seems more insistent on taking the juice immediately before, I guess it kind of coats his mouth and helps disguise the taste. Just a note about the flavoring---I do it for my son with his cimetidine and this should only be done by your pharmacist. So far we have had coffee, then cherry and soon to start bubblegum. No matter how you flavor cimetidine it is awful and bitter. The flavoring book even states that cimetidine is very bitter and adding flavor will make it palatable at best The bitter taste lingers after the medicine is swallowed. and to add 1 packet of equal for every 30ml ( 1 oz) of liquid. Orapred will soon be available ( if it hasn't arrived already!) in a 15mg orally disintegrating tablet. I believe it will be grape flavored, but I forget. I haven't seen it yet. I don't know if it is able to be broken in half for smaller dosing or not. Hopefully that could help with that one.

Guest guest
Did adding the sweetner help? Did you add sweetner yourself if so how much, or did you have the pharamcists do it. i am still debating on whether or not to start her on the medicine but now I think I definitely will. She came down with another fever tonight. She has been getting them every 12 days since the end of July when we started her on the Pediapred. I don't think I want to give that to her anymore because it is def. making her fevers closer together and my Dr. said that this was a myth. I don't think so......
