Guest guest
Does anyone know it you have to have the Autism label to get an Autism Resource teacher to observe your child? I was under the impression that if the team agrees that it would be helpful the school would get the related services for the child. Guess I need to go back and look at the regulations. The school wants a medical diagnosis which may be difficult to obtain. And, why can't they do the evaluation themselves if I have requested it. This is for Rochelle's brother. He already has a LD label that makes him eligible for services. Any thoughts. Diane

I don't think my district has an autism specialist and I would hesitate to have the school diagnos any child. The school does use PECS,the computer etc. whatever he needs to teach him. Having an LD label doesn't always mean that kids are automatically in the special ed system but could be accomodated under 504. I would push for whatever modifications he needs educationally to help him learn, PECS, computer, extra time etc. My generic opinion but hard to say when you don't know the specifics on a child. They want to label her as LD so she can get resourse room. She was held back this year in the first grade. In my opinion, I dont see that she needs it, yes I know she was slow last year, but I think she just needed to mature. This year she is reading and yesterday came home with 100 on her spelling test. So I guess I have to fight this too. Autism or Down syndrome. The stimming question. I just learned this word when joining this group. It is when our kids are focusing on an object or flapping hands inappropriately. (these are just examples and not exhaustive) It is a behavior that helps calm the children but pushes them into their own little world which then is sometimes difficult to engage them. Someone may give you a better understanding of it. But, I gave it my best shot. Diane
Guest guest
I think now -a-days parents push their kid to do whatever they can to help the child learn in school. But that's not always the case. My mom turtors once a week at this Elementry school ( well it's the same one where I cp-uped.) Anyhow theirs this boy that doesn't get any easy math concept and my mom and the teacher talked. My mom said that the (boy's) mom won't let him have turtering after school. Geese that's sad; but she doesn't want to inmit that theirs a problemm. --- ACER929@... wrote: > In a message dated 1/26/2002 11:22:40 AM Eastern > Standard Time, > charlyne1121@... writes: > > > > Hi Diane, > > My son does not have an autism label but does get > the related services that > > > > he needs.
