You poor thing. Do the meds give her runny bowel movements? I think I would

have taken a long bath that night by candlelight.

Oh Donna - I hope you get that Calgon. I can just imagine something like

this happening to Gabby. Luckily, she doesn't mind going to the doctor...

good thing since she goes to enough of them (plus evals which I hope ends

someday).

Ahhhh..... fun stuff ;-)

Oooh Donna, I certainly can imagine how hard this must have been. Never a

dull day in our households that's for sure. It is usually the most simple

everyday things that are most difficult. I've had many a sh**ing episode

but have yet to have one outside the home. One day when you're sitting at

the dinner table with a glass of wine you will recall this and have a good

laugh.

No Diane, but nervousness does. Poor thing is SO terrified of her peds'

office (that's where we do blood draws too---we only do them annually but she

has a great memory) Duff had to go visit his mom last night (she is

finally starting to do better), but Alison, my 9 yo, gave me a back

massage....she's so cute!! Lotion and all..LOL

I hate blood draws. I get sooooo nervous because I know they will stick her

and stick her and still not get the blood. It has happened so many times so

many places. I want to get Rochelle to a Nutritionist but I know they will

want to draw blood sooooo we haven't gone yet.

Poor Maddie, do the Doctors where white? I tell the doctors not to wear those

white coats. It helps alittle. It's that fright and flight thing going on.

Your daughter Alison sounds like a gem. My husband laughs at me when I try to

teach my children how to rub my back. It reminds me of my mom. We use to like

to rub each others back.

Donna, do you have a friend that could go with you to the doctor during the

school day. If you lived near me I would go with you. You probably don't want

to bother anyone but they would understand. Maybe a respite worker? There has

got to be someone who can go with you. Sorry to go on. Just want to help.

Angel needs to go for bloodwork on Friday. We never use the lab at

our hospital as the ped's office is in the hospital and Angel would

never want to see him again if she associated bloodwork with the

ped. We drive an hour to go to a different hosp and get it done. I

have our peds office fax them a letter to let them know we are

coming, the ETA and give them the 'scooby' on Angel's needs, fears of

bloodwork, etc. Then they know not to attempt bandaids, to give lots

of stickers, and to have 4 people ready to help hold her down. They

have also learned to shut all outside doors in the halls, etc so that

everyone else isn't terrified by her screams. They are fast and do

it well so it is worth the drive to get it done. And.....I don't

warn her that she is going to get any thing done. I just put in the

hosp pic sym and always put in lots of fun afterwards, like the pool

or McD's, etc. So we focus on that and then rush in to do the

bloodwork and leave asap. She is so funny too as while she is

screaming at the top of her lungs and kicking and fighting she

repeats over and over these words, 'no thank you'(no da do), while

they draw the blood. Then when we leave and it is all done she

gladly says goodbye and thanks them as she is thrilled and relieved

to be getting out of there. We tried counting to 10 last time so

that she would know there was an end, but it didn't work as she was

in too much of a panic. They also know not to have us wait and not

to wear lab coats which helps lessen the anxiety.

Take care,

Cheryl, Mom to Angel, 5, ds-asd

Cheryl,

Maddie just does not have that type comprehension, even with

pictures...YET..I'm hopeful and we are working diligently on that. So no

amount of prep would work with her anyway. Like Angel, it's get in there

quick and get it done. We even use emla, so I know she's not feeling any

pain...it's just the terror of other people. If I knew how to draw blood,

we might have an easier time of it.....;-)

Good luck with the draw!

Donna
