We met Pat Winders today at Kennedy Krieger. I told her my concerns about

Rochelle not jumping and not walking independently up/down stairs. She gave

me lots of suggestions for at home/school. She even took a couple of snaps to

show the school what an adapted tricycle looks like with Rochelle riding of

course. I got so excited to see Rochelle riding independently. It was a back

support and a pair of small foot pedals that attach to any tricycle. So it

can grow with her. She couldn't steer it but it looked so easy. This is a

child who doesn't like ride ons. She mentioned shoe inserts for added support

and a lighter shoe. She had lots of ideas to help Roe strengthen her legs.

She was really warm and knowledgable. I really liked her energy.

I told her Hello from Joan and Donna and that I met you all on the internet.

I never did ask you all how you knew her. You stay in touch with her too? I

look forward to her written eval for school/home program. Now I really have

no excuse to sit around with Rochelle. Looks like we will be running,

bouncing and walking alot more. She said everyday would be good. Guess we

need to make room for a mini trampoline. Hope it can fit under the bed. LOL

Next week we see Dr. Capone.

Hey Diane:

Isn't Pat the greatest? She's my all time favorite person to be with during

the Down Syndrome Medical Interest Group Meetings.

I met Pat a few years ago, but really got to know her better in the last

year or so. She is really invested in our kids--all of them--and has a

kind, gentle heart. I didn't meet her through the clinic, though Andy went

ripping through there (it's the only room on the floor with toys) on his

way to see someone else. I already knew Pat--she was happy to see us even

if we were a fleeting duo.

Let Dr. Capone know I send my best to him as well. He is who follows Andy

from afar. We saw him on our trip to Baltimore, of course. He has always

treated me with respect even after meeting me under some questionable

circumstances. Why...we did this long questionaire together with Andy

sitting on my behind danging not one, not two, but THREE jump ropes b/c the

nurse twapped him out so much. By the end of hte visit, though, Andy and

were running up and down the hall together. It was fun to see the

transition. Andy knew he could trust and that he was there to be a

positive influence.

Keep us posted!

take care,

j

We have a mattrress on the floor in Rochelle's bedroom. It was the trundle

mattress from her brothers bed. We still haven't gotten her a big girl bed

but I've picked it out. DH wants me to paint room before new furniture. That

was a year ago. LOL She doesn't roll off it anymore so she is ready. As for

jumping, my son ruined our bed by jumping so I am very wary. We encouraged it

back then. Rochelle doesn't have a clue to jumping yet and doesn't even bend

her knees.

Talked to Sped Teacher about getting special trike. She said, they use to

have them and will see about getting one.

Donna, have a safe & romantic trip in the Virgin Islands. We have relatives

in St. Croix but haven't been up to visit yet. Went to the islands way back

during Honeymoon. It's beautiful.
