We use it for other things, so I name each thing we are doing after I say *go*...like....jump, run, push etc... Oh, Seth starts library today. It's not in his IEP yet, but the teacher and I have worked it out and it sounds like a good plan to me. YES!!!!!! Gail :-)

How did I know the teacher didn't have a clue as how to actually teach Seth. LOL He brought home his library book today. UGH!!!!!!!!! They aren't teaching him to take it to a table and sit down and look at the pictures and put it back on the shelf. They just walked Seth to the library and got a book and put it in his backpack. Just enough to fill the request of library. I know I should have patience with them, but they are driving me NUTS!!!!!!!!!!! The point wasn't to bring home a book. It was to get a book, sit down with it, look at it and put it back. I don't care if they have to do it every day. It is an important skill for Seth to have because his sister is a librarian and the girls and I volunteer at the library every week. It would improve his home and community life and I was hoping they would help teach this skill to him. I really don't think that was an outrageous request. Now the teacher will get all huffy when I say there is no need for him to bring a book home, that he can look at the pictures in the library, sitting at a table. Just how can an educator miss the whole point? What they did makes NO SENSE to Seth. Heck, makes no sense to me either. LOL Gail :-)

Did you mention why you want him to look at it there? As in you will probably spend a lot of time actually IN a library? Loriann >> Yep, told her it all. Guess she just doesn't get it or is just fulfilling the requirement. They have an agenda of things to accomplish for the day, and if it's all done hand over hand or however...they just do it. Doesn't matter if the kids actually learn anything....they just DO what they have to do to cross it off the list. Guess I'll have to have step by step of how to go to library written in his IEP too. I really don't have any patience left for their nonsense. I would like to be diplomatic, like Joan said, but where the heck is that going to get me? I really thought the teacher understood our pleasant talk we had. I wasn't demanding, snotty or anything. I explained why I thought he needed to have these skills...she agreed with everything I said. Any ideas on how to get through to them? LOL Gail :-)

For the life of me, I couldn't imagine you SNOTTY!!!!! ;-) But here's a thought. Why not actually write them up a schedule with a 1-2-3 sequence. You know, 1- at10:00 (whatever you think), take Seth to the library so he can choose a book....2-bring him back to his chair and help him look through the book......3-when Seth is through, assist him in returning the book to the shelf. Then laminate it and ask them to hang it up as part of Seth's schedule!! Got the idea?!? Good luck dear, Donna
