My husband misses him too, but doesn't crawl into Ian's bed to see if he can

smell him the way I do. :) The kids are okay, they miss him but relish the

peace his absence gives them. They're looking forward to the visit.

We can send postcards? For what, and why does

someone need postcards for different people? Sorry if

I'm being nosey, but I think I missed the point.

Y'all have a good weekend.

Hi , I was so sorry to read about the shootings in your country. Things

like this are just not supposed to happen and when they do it hurts all of us

not just the ones directly involved. Carole

it up with school too, just got school pics back a

week or soo ago, will see about posting them this

weekend, but he can send one in his first letter---it

will be simple, he functions around k-1st level

Hi Carole

Thanks for your simpathy. The world is really turning up-side-down this

September. We are all shaken, you know, living in Switzerland until now meant:

you can walk the streets in cities and villages without fear, our children walk

by themselves to school and politicians, including our 6 ministers and the

president take the train or the bus to go to work, no body guard or armed

chauffeur, something that couldn't be imagined in other countries - but after

last Thursday, things might also change in this country.

I have difficulties to explain all this terror to my girls. Fabio doesn't

understand for which I'm grateful.

Kind regards from Switzerland

Hi ,I wanted to say that when i grew up in the 50s and 60s life was much easier

and kids could go freely and doors were often left unlocked in our area. It was

a much kinder and gentler time that none of us will see again. Doctorsand

therapists here are really stressing that kids be included in talking about the

terrorism and being reassured that you will keep them safe in your home.My 7

year old granddaughter is the only one affected as her brothers are one and two

and ,like Fabio ,does not understand at all.Her parents answer her

questions as they come up,and then tell her that she is safe.We all pray that

that is true. Carole

Awww, I just feel so bad for you CK. :-( I hope over time it gets

easier for you, and from what I've read, Ian seems very happy, so that has to

help ease your pain? Just want you to know you are always in my prayers CK.

Sure hope this list is here full of compassionate people if and when I live

your experience.

Ian is 12, 13 in February. I'd like to think he could have a penpal, but he

doesn't write very often, just notes to his mystery " friend from soccer " (I

think I've written about him here, but if not, just let me know and I'll

tell you the story).

Thank you, Gail. I am confident that if and when you need such support, you

will get it here. The people here have just been an incredible resource for

me.

a,

Ian would love to receive mail -- he loves to read it and collect it -- but

he wouldn't be interested in writing it, which would defeat the purpose of

being a penpal. The only letters he likes to write are to me and Santa,

asking for things. :)

hehehehe, thats cute, im not sure if nathan is up to

writing letters yet anyways, cant write yet, but can

type a little, of things he copies, nothig from his

own thoughts. But I will keep ian's address and maybe

send him a card once and a while with nathan's sort of

signiture, ofcourse i will write beneath it so ian

knows who it is from. shawna.

Sara,

Sorry it's taken so long for me to reply to you. It's been a crazy time.

Pathfinder Village is a school and residential program located in Edmeston

NY, which is near stown, in upstate. We found it through a friend

sending us a link to their website (www.pathfindervillage.org) at a time

when we were having a lot of difficulties with Ian. Most of the residents

there are adults, out of school, and they have jobs either at the village or

in the surrounding community. Yes, the school district pays for it, because

we fought them for it -- it's a good program, but they really didn't have

anything that could offer Ian even close to an equivalent here. Ian comes

home during school breaks, such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, spring break,

Easter break, etc. Whenever the NY calendar indicates school is closed, so

is the school at Pathfinder Village. During months when Ian doesn't come

home, we go over to see him -- for instance, on his birthday weekend. It's

a three-hour trip for us, so it isn't *convenient*, but it's necessary. :)

I'd be glad to answer any other questions you might have, and I'll try not

to take so long in answering. :)

CK,

Mom to Ian (2/89),

(9/90),

and Rose (6/94)
