We are all shaken, you know, living in Switzerland until now meant: you can walk the streets in cities and villages without fear, our children walk by themselves to school and politicians, including our 6 ministers and the president take the train or the bus to go to work, no body guard or armed chauffeur, something that couldn't be imagined in other countries - but after last Thursday, things might also change in this country. I have difficulties to explain all this terror to my girls. Fabio doesn't understand for which I'm grateful. It was a much kinder and gentler time that none of us will see again. Doctorsand therapists here are really stressing that kids be included in talking about the terrorism and being reassured that you will keep them safe in your home.My 7 year old granddaughter is the only one affected as her brothers are one and two and ,like Fabio ,does not understand at all.Her parents answer her questions as they come up,and then tell her that she is safe.We all pray that that is true. Pathfinder Village is a school and residential program located in Edmeston NY, which is near stown, in upstate. We found it through a friend sending us a link to their website (www.pathfindervillage.org) at a time when we were having a lot of difficulties with Ian. Most of the residents there are adults, out of school, and they have jobs either at the village or in the surrounding community. Yes, the school district pays for it, because we fought them for it -- it's a good program, but they really didn't have anything that could offer Ian even close to an equivalent here. Ian comes home during school breaks, such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, spring break, Easter break, etc. Whenever the NY calendar indicates school is closed, so is the school at Pathfinder Village. During months when Ian doesn't come home, we go over to see him -- for instance, on his birthday weekend. It's a three-hour trip for us, so it isn't *convenient*, but it's necessary. I'd be glad to answer any other questions you might have, and I'll try not to take so long in answering.
