A bit OT for the purpose of this group, but important for all of our kids just the same,...Note: forwarded message attached.

Dear Friend,

Our sister site, Reading Rockets, has some big

news — their latest PBS program on reading is premiering

this weekend on WETA TV 26!

A Chance to Read, with Molly Ringwald

Saturday, September 1, at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday, September 2, at 6 p.m.

WETA TV 26

Washington, D.C.

If you don't live in the Washington, D.C., area,

please check our broadcast

schedule to find out when the show will be airing in your

neighborhood. Right now we've got airdates listed for New York,

North Carolina, New Mexico, South Dakota, New Hampshire, and

more. The schedule is updated every Monday by 11 a.m., so please

check back regularly for the most current information.

It gets better, though — if you can't

stand the suspense, you can watch the whole show right now! Just

visit us online. The

website also offers helpful resources including articles and

books about reading and disabilities, and a full show

transcript.

No matter how you watch it, we hope you enjoy A

Chance to Read. We're really thrilled to have Molly

Ringwald host this look at the reading challenges facing kids

with disabilities and what schools across the country are doing

to help them find success. For generations, many people assumed

that children with disabilities would never learn to read

— what Dr. Mathes calls "assumicide." In New

Mexico, Minnesota, Georgia, and Texas, we'll meet the amazing

kids, parents, researchers, and teachers who are working to

eliminate "assumicide" and give every child a chance to

read.

We hope you'll join us.
