Guest guest
Since our recent discussion of how crappy people get health care, I thought this story from a friend might be timely (anyone think of any advice, pls feel free to email me, I'll forward to her): Wed. extremely low blood pressure 83/37 no improvement over the next 40 min. I called the Doctor, come straight in, He sends us directly to the ER, and tells us what to say so they will take us immediately, they did, within the hour the dr in the ER says he is very anemic (his hemoglobin is at 7, normal is between 13-18) he will need a transfusion of 2 units at least and he is very dehydrated...by Midnight we are in the room, but no blood. Thurs. am CAT scan, still no blood finally start an IV for the dehydrated man, PM doctor comes in and says that **** has a very aggressive form of B-cell lymphoma, he will need another CAT in the am , bone marrow biopsy on monday, chemo later in the week, boom there you have it. They did start him on prednisone to build his blood. Friday, no CAT, no blood, hem. level is at 7.9, ( i could go on forever with all of the miscommunication from the residents) PM doctor comes back in and it is a non-aggressive B-cell lymphoma, no Bone marrow biopsy, no chemo, we are going to wait till sat. to check levels and then give him the blood. They stopped the saline drip. sat. no blood, no IV, but we are still in hospital....???? sun. no blood, no IV, we are all worn out from taking turns at hospital but that is ok God is good , amen Mon am , Doctor now wants to give blood, ordered two units, IF they can match the his blood he will get some if not, well Mr. **** then we are going to go ahead and send you on home. But his levels at this point are the " same " , waiting , still waiting....... resident comes in around Dr. Phil time whenever that is, we are going to send you home looks like your levels are up to 8.9 and with your Hemoglobic Anemia it would really be a mute point to give you the blood, did I mention that his anemia has been on his chart from minute one....
