I received this posting from an Ontario listmate: And now a very important announcement. This group of families have stuck their necks out for all our benefits.... the gov't is now going after court costs from these families. Let's show our unity to this group of families, that we will not support the government bullying us out of seeking the services that our children need and is their right to recieve. If you are able to, attend court on Monday, June 11th, to show your support for this Class Action Case. Remember, WHEN they win you will benefit the same as these families, however, if they have to pay court costs, these families will be responsible for this huge bill because they sought to help your kids and mine. Government and School Boards Going After Families of Children with Autism for $85,000 in Legal Expenses: Sagharian Class Action When: Monday June 11th, 2007 at 2:15pm Where: Ontario Superior Court of Justice 361 or 393 University

Avenue Toronto, ON Exact building and room location will be posted on a list in 393 University Avenue, 10th floor, and also in the lobby of 361 University Avenue. Both lists will indicate the location information for hearings taking place in both buildings. Please join us in court so that we can stand together to send a united message that our children have a right to appropriate publicly funded programs and services. This lawsuit is proceeding as a Class Action case which means that all of you will benefit when these families win. Backgrounder Five families who brought a class action lawsuit against the government and seven school boards in Ontario for failing to provide or fund ABA/IBI in the education system or without excessive and detrimental delays have to go to court in June to explain why they shouldn't have to foot the $85,000 bill of the government and school boards' legal expenses. After the government and school boards brought a motion to strike the plaintiffs’ case, a judge of the Superior Court of Justice struck portions of their claim in March 2007. The plaintiffs are in the process of appealing this decision to the Court of

Appeal. Meanwhile, the government and school boards are going after these families for their legal expenses on the motion to strike and the costs hearing is set for Monday June 11th, 2007 at 2:15pm. The families want to ensure better universal access to publicly funded and quality services for children with autism in Ontario. The case brings together all of

the short-comings of the current services. They argue that if ABA/IBI was available through the education system to children with autism, their needs would be met with the money that is currently in the system. taline.s@...
