others), chlorthalidone (Hygroton, Thalitone), and others;

· an angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitor (ACE inhibitor)

Hi e, Thank you so much for the page. There sure seems to be a lot of things to watch out for taking this pill. I have taken it for two days so far and today I just feel so tired. I guess I'm not feeling that good yet. I know most things thye try take time, but now my doctor wants to maybe put me on Metrotrexet, (spelling)? I was on it before and felt sick and my hair really thined out. I hope these work instead of having to go back to that.

about looking in the mirror and telling yourself that you are pretty

and stuff like that. I had bad depression and a psyciatrist(sp?)

told me to do the same thing. To look inthe mirror every day and

think of so many things that is good about yourself including that

you are pretty. Men have a way of mentally abusing women to where

you eventually feel like a nothing and you can't let them get to

you. This group has gave very good advice to you and it's the same

as what a phsciatrist told me so that goes to show that this gruop

is as smart as docs and you don't have to pay for it: )if all else

fails you may to consider seeing a doc about this. Just trying to

help and we all care about you on here and hope for the best for you

and you just remember that you are somebody and no man can convince

Jona thank you so much for the advice and I don't think I would need to see a doctor for this since I have such wonderful friends here. I am improving with the hating my self thing. But you know when I was married it was every thing for him. My hair, the way I dressed and what I liked so now it's taking me longer to find me! But, I am getting there. My church tells me that if I hate myself then I hate God since he made me. So I am gonna practice that mirror thing and see if I can do that. I mean it's not a pretty matter to look at myself but i will try it.

So far I can't really tell if the pills are working or not. About 2am this morning I got the worst shivers and chills and had to get three blankets. Then I felt like I must of had a high fever. I still have some pain and guess I should call the doctor.

Bextra joins the ranks of Celebrex and Vioxx. It is another cox 2 inhibitor.

Works like all the other NSAIDs but does not have the GI problems, although

we still tell our patients to take food with it. I have had no reports that

Hello Debby and Jerry,

I'm way behind on reading some of the posts but this caught my eye.... Randy was just prescribed this med. this week to help with pain/inflammation in his ankle due to the alignment of his broken leg. I checked with the TX team at Cleveland and they gave the ok to bextra, vioxx or celebrex for short term (about a month). They told me it would elevate his LFT's and they would note that he is taking this med so when his labs come in this month they will know why.

We always check with them first before he takes any new medication but the consensus has been that he can take any medication I can take. His lab numbers were perfect and has been since the tx (except during the time he was on pain meds for his broken leg). I can say this tho--- for the past two days that he has taken the med the pain in his ankle went from a 10/11 to a 1/2 and he isnt limping....

The doctor is discussing maybe going in and removing some plates and pins he has in his ankle area when he broke the same leg (both bones) about 12 years ago when his dog pulled him off his deck and he fell about 6 feet. We are hoping the medication will give his body a chance to adjust to the new alignment and he will be able to strengthen the ankle area and not require additional surgery. He isnt too thrilled about being on crutches anymore.

But he does want to be able to climb on that telescope again -- a big toy for the boys. It is 485ft tall and he has to be able to come down off of it(safety procedure) within 15minutes using the steps or repelling over the side-- neither of which the doctor wants him to try at this point nor does Randy think he could accomplish it. So we are hoping this will help.

Cheryl....yeah...from what I gathered

from the web-site Bextra is OK in the short run and one should always

check with the liver doctor...I do the same thing if I am offered

another drug.....I check with the Clinic however I haven't had any new

meds for a long while and I don't take pain killers (altho sometimes I

wished I had some nice vicodin or something) When my GP scripted Fosamax

2 yrs ago I asked the Clinic first they said OK. but my esophagus is

such a mess they said get off of it if it causes trouble...so I never

really got into it. You guys are the Mountaineer State so you can climb

those high places but God didn't give us city boys wings nor the guts

(at least me) to go that high. Glad Randy is getting better, maybe the

Bextra will give him enough relief to strengthen those old bones.

Cheryl, I am glad Randy is only taking the Bextra for a little bit. I won't ever come close to one again, for I just don't want to have any more problems than I aleady have. The GI was so totally opposed to me taking them....so I asked the Pain Doctor for something for the pain....and he gave me Napryson....probably as bad if not worse...EXCEPT...it works for me! Hey for one day, I have been able to MOVE! YIPEE!

Liz, as frustrating as it is since you've found Bextra to work for you,

I would recommend exploring the possibility of trying another NSAID (and

there are many, many to chose from) that your insurance will cover. Even

though many doctors are pushing the relatively new COX-2s, the evidence

from several studies shows that they, as a class, are not more effective

than the older non-selective NSAIDs. Even OTC ibuprofen and naproxen can

be extremely effective given you take an equivalent dose.

It's important to keep in mind that COX-2s were developed to be safer,

not more effective. And whether they really are safer remains to be

seen.

I have taken Bextra for several years. Vioxx raised my blood

pressure. Bextra is quite expensive; I do not have insurance. For a

while it was available from Canada, but no more. For me the advantage

is that it is less irritating to my stomach. I take a lower dose then

I really need to try and save money.

My husband is taking Narproxen . It is twice a day. He says it is strange. The pain never really goes away like it did with Vioxx but it does not get any worse. He says it is like a dull pain. It is about $25 Canada for 30 days. Work pays most of it. Not that it is that much. Tell you more as we know more. Oh it is a drug that has been around for years. I have been on Bextra for two years now. Without it my muscles go into spasm. It does not hurt my stomach. I am very happy with it.

Now that Vioxx is off the market, can anyone describe their experience with the other two -2 inhibitors: Celebrex and Bextra? I've been relying on Aleve (as many as 3 tablets a day) but its causing stomach problems and I need to stop/cut down.

Thanks, what's your dosage? So far, it seems pretty good to me too. But its only been one day. I've been eating Aleve like candy, and I know its not good for my stomach.

Is that Naproxem Sodium? Here in the U.S. the brand name is 'Aleve' and costs much less than $25 for 30 days.

Be careful with Aleve - I took 2 a day for less than two weeks - caused a gastric hemorrhage

I had no previous history of any gastric problems. It took several months to get my blood count back to normal.

The only difference between Naproxen and Vioxx is that is a cox 1 and cox

2 inhibitor that means it might upset your stomach.That really is the

major difference between them. It should work for him. Just be carful

with your stomach. Taken over a long time it can cause ulcers (Not

that it will, just can cause ulcers)

I wanted to take Celebrex since they took Vioxx off the self but my Public Aid card wouldn't pay for it unless your over 65 and I'm 61 so I'm taking Tramadol 50 mg did you ever hear of this pill. Have a nice day .
