Guest guest
And after the /Kirby interview, I don't think they're all that endeared to FAIR, either. I guess that's okay. They're getting in the way, anyhow. It's gotten harder to raise funds. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Take a look at their tax return and that will surely tell > > > > everyone > > > > > > they are > > > > > > > not living in our world. Guest guest
<< As my friend Winnie (my daughter's tutor) told me... even people's cars in this country get better treatment than people do in some areas of the world. My car has a 2.5 car garage to keep it cozy. In the slums of New Delhi, India... there are entire colonies of people who comb through TRASH for food and materials to build their homes. Tuberculosis is rampant and the people live in absolute filth... ....When you hear about Trump (for example) having a $900K wall hanging in his corporate offices... it makes me utterly sick.>> While I resonate with your sentiments, I'd just like to point out that most Americans seem to know more about the slums of India than their underprivileged fellow citizens, who are in comparison practically invisible and absent from the American collective consciousness. One does not compare oneself with the people living in subhuman conditions under the New York subway system -- because people like that are acknowledged only peripherally by this nation's media, if at all. India is a country of **one billion** squeezed into an area -- if Im not too off the mark -- roughly the size of Texas. Its human and material resources were bled dry by colonialism; and when it emerged from British rule, the growth of its population rapidly overtook the growth of its economy because 1. Life expectancy improved with better access to government subsidized medical care and 2. birth control was politicized so that it was presented as an evil plot to keep some communities down rather than improve the standard of living for all. I suppose as a first generation immigrant I have a different perspective from many others on this list. But it just occurred to me that if fellow citizens of this nation -- blessed as it is with so much abundance -- were were more conscious of THEIR OWN park dwellers, garbage foragers, the homeless with psychiatric disorders, the abandoned, the hungry, the many parallel worlds that exist within driving distance -- we could, collectively spark a change for the better that might truly stand as an example to the world. More to the mission of this list, I applaud the role it plays in stoking public awareness of the hypocrisy and doublespeak in agencies, both private and governmental, that claim to be working for our benefit. Guest guest
Has anyone verified that they, indeed, spend $1 million on adverts, and earn 6-figures? If they are a non- or not-for-profit org, then their 990 tax form should be publicly available via the Secretary of State Office. I'll go hunting, be back in a flash.... Guest guest
Chitra, you are absolutely correct and I meant no disrespect for our own homeless and impoverished citizens. I only used the India example because my friend Winnie runs a foundation called Operation Asha that brings free and basic medical care into these Indian slums. I recently got to view some video and photos she had shown me... and it looked subhuman. Even worse than what many homeless americans have to deal with. It broke my heart (not that it hasn't been a hundred times already....) I'm supporting her efforts by donating my design services for their brochures/newsletters, etc. To me, a person in need is a person in need, no matter where they live. > > << As my friend Winnie (my daughter's tutor) told me... even people's > cars in this country get better treatment than people do in some > areas of the world. Guest guest
That's so funny, my husband and I just said the same thing, there are 3 kids in town here that can't afford to do any of the medical treatments, we both said that if we win the lottery, screw our families (they can take care of themselves), we're paying for specialists for these kids. There is also one family in town who are LOADED, but do nothing. The mom gives me the " you're going to kill your kid with all of that medical stuff " looks and says that she's learned to accept her son as he is. You know, like I'm a bad mom because I can't do that. Oh well. > > > > > > > > > > > > Take a look at their tax return and that will surely tell everyone > > > > > they are > > > > > > not living in our world. Guest guest
Gee, ya think? As I said, they just took $1 million out of Pittsburgh while several groups, including the ASA struggle to raise funds for summer camps, operating expenses, etc. And you know what? They don't care. And they won't care. They'll just keep on doing what they're doing, and we'll have no choice but to join or be shunned. As I said in my editorial, it's & Goliath. We're in the trenches doing the work, helping people, working harder than anyone in their right mind would work, for what? I'm seriously about to give up. What's the point? It's inevitable. I'll just sit back and watch as the big corporate machine puts out their own brand of autism, their own message, without even the CONSENT or INPUT of their own daughter who is the parent of a child with autism. Those that give in will be bought off, like CAN, who jumped at their cash faster than a shark at a bucket of chum. Exhausted & frustrated (and working at the Center since 7 a.m.) > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Take a look at their tax return and that will surely tell > > > > > everyone > > > > > > > they are > > > > > > > > not living in our world. Guest guest
If money were no object, there are two families for which I would want to buy homes. Friends of mine who really could use it. I'd also like to see all-inclusive autism centers that provide medical treatments and therapies as well as family counseling... and make it very affordable for families. I'd like to see a chain of these things, and am inspired by the planned center that Lum Corby has shown me while she was visiting Chicago during Autism One. If her plan were fully enacted, it would rival Thoughtful House... which I admire greatly, btw. I intend to assist her in any way that I can... > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Take a look at their tax return and that will surely tell everyone > > > > > > they are > > > > > > > not living in our world. Guest guest
there is NO giving up. The human spirit always will eclipse a corporation, any day! FAITH can move mountains... or corporatized non-profits. I see no difference. Steam ahead with indomitable spirit. You have truth on your side. That means GOD will help you and sweep obstacles aside. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Take a look at their tax return and that will surely tell > > > > > > everyone > > > > > > > > they are > > > > > > > > > not living in our world. Guest guest
What gets me is the sheeple autism parents that won't see anything wrong with their gianormous salaries, expensive jet, swanky offices, and all the other freaking perks these peolle are getting in the name of autism awareness. So many parents think that Autism Speaks IS THEE AUTISM ORGANIZATION. No wonder the autism community is a divided community because quite a few of people seem to have their heads lodged up their asses! > > I'm not surprised to see these salaries. Guest guest
, I say you and I visit each and every school district in the area and ask them to direct fundraising to the Autistic Society and those who are actually helping our local kids. Why not suggest the funds be raised for AutismLink, which will donate all funds to pay for the summer camps and programs for those who cannot afford it or who don't have the funds left through their wrap around service, etc. And I suggest everyone do this in every area across the U.S. We are not powerless. Sometimes, we just aren't putting enough thought into it. But, you are right, . They have all kinds of summer camps, and programs locally for our kids and if they are hurting, then our kids are hurting. Each person needs to go to, not only your own school district, but to each school district close to you and ask for the autism fundraising money to be directed to a LOCAL autism support organization or group that actually does something for your child or other children in the area.
