Guest guest
Hello all, I'd like to thank everyone for the information shared on this newsgroup. I did some research and our son has now been fever free for 1 1/2 years. Yipee. I haven't looked at the newsgroup in a while but wanted to share our story and success for anyone else who is looking for information. Here's our story. My son started getting fevers at the age of 2. He never had strep, he would get severe headache, dark circles around his eyes and a stiff neck each time. I thought that he had meningitis a few times and took him to the doctor. Each time, they came up with no reason for his fevers. They thought it might be some type of virus. By the age of 5 he was started to get the fevers more and more frequently. I recognized that they were cyclical and started keeping track of how often they occured. It got to the point where he was having them every 4 to 6 weeks. They weren't exactly at the same time each month and a few times they were just two weeks apart. It disrupted school and vacations and our daily lives not to mention how badly he felt whenever he would get them. He wouldn't eat or move because his headache and stiff neck were so painful. I had my tonsils out when I was 20 years old and went through several years of strep/tonsilitus before getting them removed. After reading about the fact that getting tonsils out had been known to help and my own experience we decided to go to an ENT. We did have a blood test done and it was consistent with the readings. We had his tonsils out in November of 2004 and he hasn't had a fever or a headache since. In fact, he hasn't even had a bad cold in all of this time. I found the information posted here very helpful in my endeavor to make my child well. Our pediatricians had heard of but didn't give us much in the way of advice regarding what to do to help him. Many times we didn't bring him to the doctor because we knew that the fever would come, would last 5-7 days and would go away again with no explanation. I'd been thinking about the group and the other parents that are still searching for some help. I hope this story helps someone else out there who is looking for answers.
