Guest guest
Gretchen - My son is 12 also and has had periodic fevers since age 2. I understand what you are saying about the years going by and just dealing with the fevers, keeping the child comfortable and hoping they won't be back the next time. Honestly I couldn't wait anymore - if there was a chance Dylan could get SOME relief from these fevers I had to push for the tonsillectomy. I'm so glad I did. Dylan had his tonsils/adenoids removed last December and he hasn't had a fever since. He still gets fatigue from time to time and those horrible canker sores. His appetite improved immediately and he's even gained weight. He couldn't play a sport because he would miss too many practices or games due to fever or fatigue. Today he's talking about trying out for football in September. I don't post very often but read every single day. I had to put in my 2 cents about your 12 year old.... Good luck with your decision. Regards, Toni mom to Dylan age 12 Long Island, NY new to group Hi my name is Gretchen and my son is . is 12 years old and was diagnosed with when he was 8 although he was sick all the time as a baby and I just thought its was childhood illness or allergies untill I noticed a pattern of re-accurance. also was having unexplained pain that we could not tell where is was coming from when he was a toddler and when he was in second grade had medial stenosis surgery and it was after that we noticed the pattern more, sorry if I have run on sentences I hav'ent had to talk about this for awhile anyway, we chose not to put him on prednisone and see what happens, we also decided to homeschool thinking he would'nt get sick anymore, well we were wrong.....his fever periods seemed few and far between last summer, however the cycle seems to be back and bing much older the hit him hard, he is down for 3 days. Our pediatrician wants us to think about a tonsilectomy now. I'm not convienced it will help! We also found out that he did have mono at some time because he is positive for the epbstein-barr virus. Our dr. dosen't think this is anything to do with the virus, but his symptoms sure seem like it or maybe CFS? I'm not sure what we should do. Of course I feel like I'm not doing anything for him if we don't take action, so I always say I'll just wait and see if he gets sick again and then I'll think again, is that selfish? Thank for listening. Gretchen --------------------------------- Sports Rekindle the Rivalries. Sign up for Fantasy Football
Guest guest
I am at home with two children running fevers at the same time. My oldest has pretty much out grown the fevers but she is having a cycle right now along with her little sister. I took them both to the doctor this morning because I was convinced that it was not a cycle because they both had it at the same time. I was wrong, swollen glands, blisters in their throats and high fevers are shared by both. Two negative strep tests, clear ears, nose and chest. This has never happened to us before. Guest guest
Hi Toni, Thanks for your input, I keep looking for comments from older kids and the tonsilectomy outcomes, I have had a problem letting go of body organs, however we decided or rather has decided he would like his tonsils out now and have a good summer and start 7th grade well. I'll keep you posted. Not sure of the recovery period, might wait till end of August. Thanks, Gretchen toni & augie hoffmann <hoff77@...> wrote:Gretchen - My son is 12 also and has had periodic fevers since age 2. Guest guest
Hi, my name is and my sons name is . He is 3 years old and has suffered from these severe fevers since he was 9 months. His doctor and I have decided to try a tonsillectomy to see if it helps him at all. We go for the consultaion on June 28. I am a little nervous about the pain he will be in but we hope it benefits us in the longrun.
