Guest guest Posted January 29, 2006 Report Share Posted January 29, 2006 I'm another of the new members who is late with an introduction. My 3-3/4 year old son Timmy was diagnosed with last month. His fevers have been roughly every 3 weeks, but we haven't charted them as well as we could have. I guess it's a typical case. The fevers respond to motrin/tylenol for a few hours, but he's miserable once it wears off. The longest episode was about six days. We haven't noticed any of the other typical symptoms of . Timmy has the additional complication of having had open heart surgery three days after he was born to correct congenital heart defects, so any unexplained fever raises fears of bacterial endocarditis, which is an infection of the interior lining of his heart. People who have had heart surgery are at increased risk for BE. During fever episodes last year he was sent for an echocardiogram to rule out BE and last September was put on IV antibiotics because of BE concerns. Heart-wise, he's doing very well - no restriction, no medications. His pediatrician wants to run a few more tests to rule out a few things, but the infectious disease specialist believes that it is . We live in andria, Virginia, so should we ever get involved in the NIH studies, it will be a short drive around the beltway to get there.
