I'm another of the new members who is late with an introduction. My

3-3/4 year old son Timmy was diagnosed with last month. His

fevers have been roughly every 3 weeks, but we haven't charted them as

well as we could have. I guess it's a typical case. The fevers respond

to motrin/tylenol for a few hours, but he's miserable once it wears off.

The longest episode was about six days. We haven't noticed any of the

other typical symptoms of .

Timmy has the additional complication of having had open heart surgery

three days after he was born to correct congenital heart defects, so any

unexplained fever raises fears of bacterial endocarditis, which is an

infection of the interior lining of his heart. People who have had

heart surgery are at increased risk for BE. During fever episodes last

year he was sent for an echocardiogram to rule out BE and last September

was put on IV antibiotics because of BE concerns. Heart-wise, he's

doing very well - no restriction, no medications. His pediatrician

wants to run a few more tests to rule out a few things, but the

infectious disease specialist believes that it is .

We live in andria, Virginia, so should we ever get involved in the

NIH studies, it will be a short drive around the beltway to get there.

I'll sign off with the signature block from the heart lists I'm on...
