Guest guest
Our experience with prednisone is minimal. I have chosen only to use it as back-up - for vacations and trips type of thing. We have used it for the past two months as her fevers fell right before two big trips. These were our first prednisone experiences. is almost 2-1/2 years old and her dosing is 2 tsp each day for two days. Her fevers did not come closer together but again this is a limited observation as it was just the past two months. But for each prednisone use this is true for us thus far (that is, no change in span between fevers). Best, Christy

Guest guest
, Thanks for that information. I'm logging it all and I'm going to present it to our pediatrician so we can weigh options together. I'd like to use prednisone only on a limited basis as well, but I am terrified of Ella having another febrile seizure like she had last month. Last month for the first time, we found Motrin and Tylenol to be almost ineffective. We alternated the Motrin and Tylenol every three hours and put her in lukewarm baths and fed her popsicles, but the fever never went below the 101.5 to 102 range. It was very scary! Have you had any trouble with Motrin and Tylenol being ineffective (or at least less effective over time)? Thanks, > Our experience with prednisone is minimal. Guest guest
We've used prednisone about 5 times now. is 4.5 yrs old and her dosage is 1.5 tsp given at the peak of the fever which for us is late afternoon on the first day. We were only told to give a second dose 6 hours later if the first dose didn't work. So far it stops the fever within 2 hours and othern symptoms (swollen glands) resolve in 1-2 days. Hope you find what works for you. Kathy > My daughter Ella just started her fever today. With this fever we > are trying prednisone for the first time. So far so good. Guest guest
We give my son (just over 4 yrs) 30mg of prednisolone at the start of the fever (I usually wait 12 hours to reassure myself that it is and not something else). This will usually stop the fever within an hour. Occasionally the fever will break through again 3 days later. We then give a half dose (15mg), which always works. In the last year his episodes have become quite sporadic and unpredictable. He might fever two months in a row and then not again for a few months. He has not had a fever since early July. Neither pre-school booster vaccinations nor the start of 'big school' have triggered a fever. I believe this is just a break rather than the end of . He may be starting to grow out of it now and/or the pred has helped. Guest guest
, My daughter is 2 and on the onset of fever gets one dose of prednisone. The dose is 6 ml (each child is different so please follow your doctor's orders). It makes the fever go away within 2 hours. The problem for us is that it makes the recurrence unpredictable, it may be 2 weeks or 6 before the fever returns. Also, it seems if the prednisone is given to her within the first 24 hours she may have a fever again in two days. This has occured now twice on us. We wait until the fever is over 103.5 before we consider it, and lately we have waited until it is over 104. If unchecked the fever will hit 106 and stay there, which is miserable. We try and wait out the fever as long as possible due to the side effects of prednisone.
