Guest guest
Staph-aureus is a bacteria that lives everywhere. If you culture a table top it will have staph. There are different strains and due to people OVERDOSING themselves and kids on antibiotics over the past few decades, the bacteria has been become resistant (some strains) Staph can cause numerous infections.... internal and external. One reason I ALWAYS advise parents and my patients who use steroids... is to MAKE sure a episode is REALLY a episode and if NOT SURE, see a doc. Especially children with throat involvement. If it turns out to be strep or staph etc... YOU DO NOT want to administer a steroid. This may cause a SEVERE infection. But many staph infections will be treated and cured with broad spectrum antibiotics. The culture and sensitivity will tell if the staph is a mutated resistant strain. Hopefully your child will have a simple staph infection and go away with a course of antibiotics. I would definitely hold off on the steroid with staph.... ph had impetigo from staph on his face and into his ear a couple of months ago. It was not a resistant staph so it was gone in 10 days!
