Guest guest
Oh Donna, it is the scariest thing ever isn't it. I just can't understand why they won't respond when we call them. They just seem to totally zone out when they are over stimmmed. I am learning to check the dark places first. I never thought about dangly things. Hmmmm....maybe that makes sense about the closets and the coat racks, etc. It almost seems like a great way to disappear into the walls. KWIM? Did Maddie do the nakey nakey thing forever too? Every time I turn around my kid is naked. Think she could go sit on the toilet while she is unclothed? Not a chance! Perfect time to pee on the rugs. I think I am going to use all these experiences for a great stand up comedy routine. Oh, gotta run, she is fishing in the toilet. Yuck! Guest guest
-, isn't it great how kids learn to self regulate. They are so good at finding ways to meet their needs. I am sure that is exactly what Angel is doing when she dissapears, just gotta find a safe place to do it. Guest guest
Time for me to read the toilet training book that Joan just sent my way. The 'toilet fishing' was a poop smearing mess, everywhere. That smell is hard to get out of the walls. That was just a reminder for me not to think all is well because it is quiet. Silence is not golden, it is STINKY. I'm learning! Do you think anyone can train a dog to be ever vigilent like Lassie? Bark loudly when our children leave the house, louder when they leave the yard, frantically look for mom or dad, and maybe follow them if all else fails. Does anyone have a dog like this? just wondering. We don't have a dog but such a dog would be nice. >> That is so funny. I looked into a companion dog years ago for my son. You know, some sort of breed that had herding skills and one that would also alert us to problems. He was on the waiting list in VA for a companion dog, but it never came through. Since then we have gotten a dog and Marley loves our big Choc. Lab (Lexi). She is a Labrador Retriever so I thought maybe we could teach her to retrieve Marley. But in the last 18 months Marley has stopped wandering off and is very much a closer to home kind of guy. In fact the dog wanders off more than Marley does. You might try calling a place that trains seeing eye and hearing ear dogs--because sometimes they have dogs that are not quite right for those jobs but that might fit your needs more. I read about a dog once that failed the hearing ear dog program because he would not jump on the furniture. (I thought, that's the dog for me!) The dog ended up at a group home and the news article said that the dog encouraged speech in a young adult woman with Downs Syndrome. This was in VA. momto Marley 10 DS/ASD, Cas, and Kira

Guest guest
Too scary . We go through this still . Quietness and hiding . Never knowing whats going through their minds . Its been a while since has done this but one early morning he went to the garage to get a crate full of toys . When I woke up I jumped up to look into his bedroom to see if he was still asleep . Then the search begin . My husband and other son (Rick) were out of town . I had looked at the garage door , the key was inserted and I did not bother looking inside . One more trip around the house , finally went to check , sure enough there he was and locked inside . One of the locks decided to kick in , since it was not working . He could not enter and he was sitting on the crate by the door , waiting . That stink pot raising my blood . I normally would have not allowed the crate full of toys inside , but since he went through that ordeal of trying to bring it in , I allowed him . I was surprised to see how strong he was carrying it in . I just read a 1 1/2 year old kid wander off outside , guess where ? Yes , the swimming pool , sadly to say he did not survive . I know we've had close calls with our kids wandering off , too many stories . Prayers that we may never have to confront our kids in danger . Maddie takes her shirt off these days. And shoes. She doesn't mind wearing pants. As far as not answering us, Maddie is not only non-verbal, but doesn't comprehend words. We have just gotten to the point where she'll turn when you call her....IF she is close enough. No hearing problems, just attention ones. And Irma? Hiding in the garage!!! Oh man!!!! That wouldn't be one of my top ten places to look!!! And Happy Birthday to !!!! And tell him we said CONGRATS for saying his name so nicely!!!!
