Hi All,

I have a few minutes and back to work again.Welcome to Sue and Dee.Gail,glad

you are back.I hope you are still planning for the July visit.Zeb finally got

his glasses and the school reported that he kept them on and did very well

with them.I can't believe how thick they are.I am feeling sooo guilty for not

trying harder to have him refracted.I got his IEP today in the mail!! I am

furious,nothing in the meeting was on this IEP.The minutes didn't include any

key issues,no teacher supports,no present level,used 99 scores,no esy goals,

no social goals,no behavioral plan, the list is endless.I called the central

office and told them it was incomplete and inadequate and in no way

acceptable.I am back to square one again! I am in my busy season with the

business and now I writing more letters and again another ppt.I would just

like one week without a school issue. I asked why the keyboard for home use

was not on the IEP,Zeb uses intellikeys,and they said that the teachers were

not properly trained and he wasn't using it enough to warrant home use and

was not benefitting from that program.The entire IEP is based on the

intellikeys.It was fine as of last week. If I hadn't questioned it were they

going to change his IEP without telling me,hence another ppt to revise goals

and get some honest answers.I am so mad!!!! I needed to vent.Leah,I spoke too

soon.Zeb is a bolter too as well as my two older children.I am a great

runner.The only kids that have ever stayed with me are the grandchildren.I at

least got to experience that feeling,seems strange.

We had three IEP meetings this year. I didn't want to bring in a tape

recorder...so I asked for minutes at teh first two. My son't teacher did

them but missed alot. I added to them and what I had heard. After doing this

twice, I decided to just bring in a tape recorder. THe district then brought

there's in too. But anyway, there could then be no denying what was said. I

think, no matter how well one gets along with their district, it is really

wise to bring a tape recorder to an IEP....just to avoid the scenario you

described above.

Hi !

Well, it's called knill here, maybe something else other places. It's a

music program that teaches imitation skills. Always starts and ends the same

way....getting out and putting away your mat. All done to a tape. There are

different beats to each movement...like....drums going bang, bang bang, bang

and you sway your arms over your head. Then, one might be like....soft

lullaby music and you pat your tummy. Another might be tick tock type of

beat and you pat your cheeks. Switches about every 30 seconds. The

*prompter* gives the kids a couple of seconds to do it on their own, then

they do hand over hand. I think it is a great thing, but, the group Seth is

in all have to be held down, (prompter wraps their legs around the child) in

silence and do hand over hand. Seth loves to do this at home just sitting

across from me and having fun, but seems so bored doing it in school. Level

one is for kids that don't want to look at you and don't want you talking to

them, then it progresses as the kids feel safe and secure with you so you

don't have to keep your legs wrapped around them and they can sit on their

own. Problem here is all these kids have done this same tape for at least 3

years, and they aren't progressing anyone. Routine is one thing, but

stagnation is another. I have observed this in school at least once a

quarter for the last two years. I did read the manual (after complaining to

teacher)on it and it sounds like if they progressed the kids, it could be a

great tool. Lots of rhythm to promote speech and imitation skills. It's

almost as if they are concentrating on the kids not losing any skills, that

they don't proceed to introduce new things. I have believed for two years

that they are the *experts*. Well, maybe they have studied a lot about

autism, but they aren't experts about Seth. We have FUN doing this at home

and he can now tolerate touching his cheeks and improved his listening

skills, and it makes my stomach churn to see him just sit there in school and

be held down and doing it hand over hand. LOL He had such an aversion to

touching his cheeks. I put mittens on him, had him hold fur, sand paper and

all kinds of things to get him to touch his cheeks. LOL Sorry you asked

now ? LOL

Aww, thanks Donna. By the time Seth is in high school, I may have some

knowledge to share with the moms of the younger ones. I'm still learning and

testing things everyday, and as we all know, what works today might not

tomorrow! LOL

Hi Beth,

Thanks for thinking of us. Dh is on meds at home and goes for blood work and

x-rays every week. He's doing okay. My Grandson is still in the ICU in

Rochester. They have been watching for brain damage due to the lack of

oxygen. Yesterday he looked really out of it. The only pact I have with God

is that I will accept whatever he allows. LOL ( but I pray hard that

things work out okay) Wouldn't it be nice to go through life with no

suffering? Guess that's why we have Heaven. ;-) Things like this really

show you what's important in life, ya know? I hope your wonderful family are

all okay. Thanks.

How is your DH doing with this bout of pneumonia? Is he back in the

hospital? I am so sorry! How is your grandson recuperating? It seems

like you should have an agreement with God- " No more hospitalizations this

year!!!! " Good grief!

Glad that Seth is having a successful school year. At least you don't have

the worry about THAT at this time!

Always amazing to hear you as cheerful as you are, despite everything.
