typically most school districts tend to catagorize as far as disabilities

go.All children go the iec room or resource for academics.I personally think

that keeping a child with his typical peers is the best scenerio.I would ask

for a special ed teacher to come into the classroom for a 1:1 for academics

for an hour etc. each day. What ever happened to the maximum extent possible?

Hello,

I personally would fight to put him in the K class with his peers. If there

is no " reason " that the school can give you as to why he will be in the CD

room, then put him in the K class. If they fight you on it, ask if he can

be in the K class for a period of time and then re-evaluate to see how he's

doing, like 6-8 weeks. I have the opposite problem. My son tests at a 2

1/2 - 3 year old level. He spends the majority of his time trying to escape

the classroom when he was with the K class. He learned more and cooperated

more in the special ed class of 4 kids. I am really going to push him being

in there more next year. I am more concerned for him to learn than to

socialize right now. He doesn't socialize anyway. He's in his " own world "

and when he is in the K class he doesn't participate anyway. Definitely

fight to put him in the K class!!

your right, they shouldnt have to pull him out at all,

especially if he is at their developmental level of

learning or above. I wouldnt let them, i would fight

tooth and nail. shawna.

yes if he does so well definately put him in, nathan

is in third grade and is only now around a

kindergarten level of passing.(going into first) And

nathan has been fully integrated since 4yrs old and in

preschool besides his Early intervention education

school(started when 3yrs) -(had early home

intervention since a month old before that)So this

fall we have opted to try a closed classroom-he has

had a great academic year this year and we now want to

build more on that, he will never be too social either

and he's ahd and will continue to have many social

contacts with peers. shawna.

Hi ,

I am confused,

if your son spends all of his time trying to escape a K classroom,

but seems to do better in a sped ed classroom, why do you want to

firce him into a K classroom?

I am just confused, cause I don't know if I understood correctly.

Did they give you a reason for wanting to pull him? If he is doing

ok in that setting, I wouldn't see any reason to pull him. If he is

struggling then I would be curious to figure out what it is that he

is struggling with.

is he doing ok? ir what reason did they give you?
