Or, vanilla ice cream.....we have actually thrown away ice cream just so Gene won't finish off the box. I now only buy it for special occations. Wasn't as big of a problem until he grew over five feet tall...now he can reach anything it seems! Lauri
Guest guest
Hi Lauri, We also have a pretzel feddish too.I try not to buy hot dogs or he will eat the entire package sneaking in and out the kitchen. We bought a refrigerator lock last year but he was so mad that he popped it from the door in 5 min.,so much for that idea.I just try to keep the kitchen in my view and limit as much as possible.I am not doing the best job that I could. My husband will feed him whatever he wants rather than deal with him.I am fighting the battle with everyone. Charlyne

I have a new refrigerator now, but that last one I drilled it and installed a hasp lock on it. Now I'm just vigilant about him getting into food. BUT school wants to give him food all day and use it as a reward! arrrrrrggggghhh. the *other* Gail
Guest guest
I am pretty lucky here, my DH is supportive of teaching the moderate eating and drinking issue with nathan, we also use to have one of those kids locks for fridges, and nathan broke it off in a couple minutes too, so i just bolted on a nice gold latch thing that goes over that loop thing and you can put a padalock through the space for it, we use a key one and keep the keys put up, i know nathan has figured out how to unlock with locks with a key ive caught him doing it, the litle sneak, he also keeps moving the temp gauge in the fridge if in it, either making everything warmish, or frozen, uuugh. Our only prob is the grandparents they just dont get it no matter how much you explain! I think we are wearing them down though, lol, lately they will ask before giving nathan more. So they are learning. shawna --- charlyne1121@... wrote: > Hi Lauri, > We also have a pretzel feddish too.I try not to buy > hot dogs or he will eat > the entire package sneaking in and out the > kitchen. We bought a refrigerator > lock last year but he was so mad that he popped it > from the door in 5 min.,so > much for that idea.I just try to keep the kitchen in > my view and limit as > much as possible.I am not doing the best job that I > could. Guest guest
everyone, i have been reading the food hording issues and emphathizing, but laughing too..... ashton is a hot dog queen herself and will eat the whole package like the other kids on the list... she is moving a step above that though....lmao she is now cooking food... my dh is not supportive in the sense of locking down the fridge... he said if he wants something he's not going to have to fiddle with a lock....impatienthe is, like most men....so we have had to work very hard at teaching her to get the picture of what she wants and come bring to us....notthat this always works, because she will also turn on the oven, put chicken tenders on cookie sheet, put into oven, and throw box in trash without ever tellingme...i wanted to throttle her the first time, but then i realized instead of being pissed at her,we could turn into an independency lesson.... i don't have as much " me " time, but she is movingalong nicely in her better crocker skills.... and we can use it to do math, reading, sorting, ect....i now have a great assistant in the kitchen......SIGH..... when life was so simple.....take care all, leah ps cameron, my non ds-pdd child hords food too and i found the wrapper in the heat duct on his floor.... so it's not only a ds-asd-pdd thing.....llololol >From: Green a <mashawnag@...> >Reply- > >Subject: Re: AAAHHHH >Date: Mon, 21 May 2001 17:28:34 -0700 (PDT) > >I am pretty lucky here, my DH is supportive of >teaching the moderate eating and drinking issue with >nathan, we also use to have one of those kids locks >for fridges, and nathan broke it off in a couple >minutes too, so i just bolted on a nice gold latch >thing that goes over that loop thing and you can put a >padalock through the space for it, we use a key one >and keep the keys put up, i know nathan has figured >out how to unlock with locks with a key ive caught him >doing it, the litle sneak, he also keeps moving the >temp gauge in the fridge if in it, either making >everything warmish, or frozen, uuugh. Our only prob is >the grandparents they just dont get it no matter how >much you explain! Guest guest
other than his one pop, nathan is not allowed any food rewards at school or home, and the school is very clear on this one, they know what its like to try and pick that wet 70# noodle off the floor, so no arguments from them, infact they have a harder time gettig him to eat, nathan loves food and drinks, but is a very very finiky eater too. shawna. --- gboughton@... wrote: > > <<They feed my child all > day. Guest guest
I too never allow the school or anyone to reward with food. We use praise and that has worked so far. I have seen other children work for food and they will give them very small amounts of that food. I never wanted to start that for but I do understand how different rewards work for different children. So much so that Rosemary had her tested. Caroline would just eat and eat and eat. There was no limit to her eating. And she stuffed too and would sneak food at the age of 2. They never determined what it was, but it lasted for a couple years. She is totally fine now and has no weight or food issues, but it was very weird.
