Leah,

I have a question for you and Joan, the connisoirs (sp?) of this. How

applicable is using these social stories and words (ie, I WANT MY BALL) to

Maddie when she doesn't have any verbal language or any understanding of

verbal language. For instance, when I show her her ball and she wants it, I

show her the pic, sign it, and do hand over hand to get her to show me she

wants it. Is it just that we are at the very first step (kinda like the

first step in ABA was eye contact, which we conquered)? As I said before,

she knows she has to rip off that picture and hand it over (this in itself is

big to us since before all we could get her to do was tap it), but she still

can't distinguish that picture to that food that she wants for lunch

(choice). And as far as social stories, I keep it basic for now. Just

let her hold a picture of where she is going til we get there.

Also, I had a meeting yesterday with my FDSS worker and we're asking for more

money this time. 300 for a stroller, 300 for respite and 200 for the PECS

workshop. I know I'll definitely get $500 since that's what I get every

year.
