Guest guest
Hi Gail, I get so frustrated with this school mentality!!! The president was in my state preaching his education act and all I get thinking of was just enforce the spec. ed. laws and make these schools accountable. We wouldn't be having these IEP discussions. Maybe we should all write him a letter. Charlyne

I dont' see how anyone could balance all of this! This past week, all teachers had to turn in some kind of form " rating " each child in the class according to these criteria. As for which school, all they will say is that if not enough volunteers are received, they will have to pick randomly, all the while assuring that the above mentioned class mixes are achieved. Sounds " Fishy " to me. And impossible. I actually don't care which school-other than the transition will be VERY difficult for Matt. In some ways, I would love to get him totally away from all of them. People at this school, and since the zone only gets larger, in the other school, are very superficial. Looks are the most important thing to them. Almost all of them. The moms coming up are perfectly made up, perfect hair, perfect clothes (ironed, no doubt), perfect everything on the surface. This is all important. Test scores for this school are the highest in the district. Just ask the principal. this makes her look good, in her Jaguar, with her perfect clothes, hair and makeup. I am not at all like this, I hope. And I dont' want to be. But I don't know where else to put Matt. Guest guest
Charlyne, Yeah, like it would do any good. Did you see the Montel show on autism? With all that those people have done for special ed., and don't get anywhere, I don't think a letter from a parent will get to far. LOL But hey, I'll do anything at this point! LOL Gail << Hi Gail, I get so frustrated with this school mentality!!! Guest guest
charlyne, i agree!!!!! if the states and LEA's would be held accountable for their actions and screwups then life would be so much easier...and if they had more on their peasize minds something other than what color of new football team jerseys and office furniture they wanted to purchase, life would be better... BUT since it's not us parents must vigorously play iEP police... even when you file complaints to the state or do a secretarial review with usdoe or call in an ocr complaint, after a slap on the hand and a warning, nothing is done to upheld the wrong mistakes...ikes makes me so angry i cut send out a hornets nest...okay i am shutting up now...leah >><< Hi Gail, > I get so frustrated with this school mentality!!! Guest guest
when Trisha's school took the kids for a special ed PE program at another school we h ad to put it into the IEP because it was changing even though it was temporary and only 5 hrs a week, it was considered a change in placement and I had to sign and agree to let them send her to the other school for the special PE class. Guest guest
but would it be appropriate if it causes anxieties which then could interfer with learning? I think the more you know about the law and the more you let them know, then you have a better chance because then they know they can't push you around or pull the wool over your eyes. I've noticed that since I have been learning more about the law, we have done better in the IEP meetings because they know that I know (wow that's hard try saying it three times lol) and therefore they know I will challenge them if I think it's wrong and that I know where to go to get information to back me up. Knowledge is very powerful. Carol

Guest guest
Hi Carol, I think all school systems dislike parents that know too much. You no longer are the yes parents and are going to cost the system more money. They definately make the fight harder but are children are the winners! You can never know enough. Guest guest
My son is at Wordsworth Academy because of Aspergers. He was approved for the private school because the district Could not place him with his high IQ When he was in the district he could not handle the size of the normal classes so he was in a special class with 1 day a week in a mentally gifted class. Both Aspergers and Mentally Gifted require an IEP. I think the school district is giving you a runaroundAutism and Aspergers Treatment From: us040887@...Date: Wed, 2 Apr 2008 13:50:35 +0000Subject: Question about IEP I was told that my son probably wouldn't qualify for an iep with his high iq even though he has aspergers.. I think no he should qualify for one.. he hasn't had his mfe yet I have requested it they haven't set up a time yet. Guest guest
When the ADOS results came out, the psychologist told us that my son should have an IEP (which we have next week) but that the point will be to put the school on notice as well as to instruct the staff. It was quite encouraging. Seeing that our psychologist wrote the ADOS and trained all of our school district's testers, we're hopeful that my son can go through school with as little interruption as necessary but still understood.
