Guest guest
There are days when talks more than others. Those days where he talks very little he will do things like you described. I try to get him to say the words when he does this. Guest guest
Cheryl, does hurtful things to people as well and I am not convinced that he understands that he is " hurting " someone. He can be just as happy as can be, hugging you, and then either take a chunk out of your shoulder or scratch you. He isn't angry or anything and when you react with surprise and/or pain, he just looks at you like " what " ? LOL He also smears and will eat feces given the opportunity. Yuck! Guest guest
we have had the strangest behavs over the past few days. Angel twice has tried to grab her bm's out of the toilet and as I have stopped her she looks at me and signs 'eat' and 'poo poo'. This in new for her as she is usually hanging her head over the toilet gagging from the smell of her bm's. But no gagging on these past two occasions, just wanting to eat it. Will be staying with her when I am able to get her on the toilet. She also took her dinner fork and stabbed it into the hand of our guest last eve. Twice in fact. He didn't move his hand away fast enough. she didn't seem to be angry at him. Just did it and didn't seem to notice that he was upset or hurting even. Then later after putting she finished toileting and I was helping to pull her pants up, she looked at me, without facial expression and lifted her finger and poked it straight at my eye. good thing i was able to quickly close my eye lid. No notice at all of the fact that it would hurt me. and again, there was no anger associated with this. I am really hoping we can get some assessing done soon so that we can figure out what to do. Know I will be seating our guests alot further away from her the next time. Any tips?? Or feedback?? Thanks, Cheryl Re: does your kid ever do this....... > There are days when talks more than others. > Those days where he talks very little he will do > things like you described. Guest guest
Cheryl, We have had behavior specialist to help us with our son Brok on three different occasions. Generally they were pretty helpful about how to deal with problem behaviors and understanding some of the motivation for them. I would ask for a behavior therapist to help with these issues. Guest guest
ita, Here is California, that's where you are too right? You get it through the regional center. Sometimes school's can also get them, we used to have one that came to our home and also worked for Spectrum which went out to schools for kids with problem behaviors. You can call your case worker and describe the situation and the problems and tell them that you are requesting a behavior therapist. We had a company out of Santa that was called On Our Own. They traveled all over I believe and had therapists in different areas. Marisa

Guest guest
Wow, Terry, he sounds like Angel. I mean there are times when she hurts us out of anger, but lots of times we don't expect it as she is just loving us and then the kiss turns into a bite, or the carress becomes a hair pull. It worries me when she is tired and is playing near other little kids cause that is when it most likely will happen, she will just suddenly take a bite when you don't expect it, but as I have seen it enough I am always on the alert for it. Angel had her first private swim lesson today. When we went into the change room before swimming, Angel freaked about some of the lift equipment hanging from the roof. She has seen this many times, used that change room lots, two days ago in fact, and suddenly it was freaky. so we used a different room, without an overhead lift, once she decided it was safe to enter it. Then during the lesson the instructor pulled out a puppet during the swim and put it in the water, boy did that freak her. Then after swimming she wouldn't enter a change room without being assured again that there was no overhead lift equipment in the one we were entering. Funny how things can be okay one day, and not at all the next. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, I know what you mean. We have toddler grandchildren who come to visit from time to time. (when he's not in the cast and is mobile) would love to watch them play...sort of peripherally..like he looks out of the side of his eyes! He'll just sit there and then out of nowhere, he'd grab one of them. I don't think he means to hurt them, just sort of to " connect " with them or something. Nevertheless, it causes quite a stir because it at the very least scares them and more often than not, he pulls their hair or scratches them. As much as I love for them to visit, it makes for some tense moments! LOL Terry
Guest guest
Marisa, Thanks for the information. We are in Arkansas. I don't even know how to get a case worker. We have never had any behavior problems before now. Part of it is puberty, I'm sure. ita
Guest guest
Hi Gail! You haven't missed a post. I am usually just lurking, but Reuben has been having aggresive behavior problems and the school is driving us crazy. We have an IEP meeting Tuesday to discuss his behavior. I see a lot of people on the list talking about behavior specialist and case workers and we have never had any of those. Just wondering how you go about getting them. ita

The behavior specialist we had was through early intervention. I'm told the DDSO is much better at handling MR kids though. I am pleased with my case worker and won't change unless she leaves though. Hope things work out for you. Gail
Guest guest
Hi ita,In New Jersey we have DDD which is division of developmental disability which is a state wide ,but run by counties, organization with all kind of help from respite care, stipends, case managers and behavior specialists. Each county also has special child health services with a worker for each child who will be an advocate with you and stays with the child til 21. Check your county and state phone listings and you should find something similar. You could also try his early intervention team for ideas on where to go .My grandson has also been having severe behavior probs and will soon be going on meds .Carole --- heirbornpr@... wrote: > Hi Gail! Guest guest
nathan has had behavior modification docs since he was around 3years. they are usually behavior pscychologists, use of tx with out meds. we just got done with another two week tx session on nathan's stereotypic behavior, they are doing a research thing on this, and its all free, and plus we get trained and tx ideas for nathan, that are actually working, and have worked well since we started using them when he was a toddler. i think our speciaty peds set us up with them, they are right there in same building. We got our case worker when we singed up for mrwaiver and hcb waiver respite and scl etc, you know. shawna. >From: heirbornpr@... >Reply- > >Subject: Re: does your kid ever do this....... >Date: Fri, 6 Apr 2001 23:04:22 EDT > >Marisa, > Thanks for the information.
