Early Detection of Autism in Babies

Last night in the wee hours of the night on CNN they reported thatthere is new early detection of Autism for babies.This morning I've searched all over the CNN website and can't locatethe story. If anyone has come across this story, please share the website.My family and I just spent the weekend with my niece who is 8 monthsold and is showing some characteristics to autism or some otherneurological issues. She is not making eye contact, not smiling, notresponding to her name, not crawling or sitting up. She is stillspitting up badly and is very sensitive and gets easily upsets at loudnoises. I do believe there is a genetic basis to this, in many cases. Not all, but many. I believe that in our generation, there were different labels for kids that would now have a diagnosis of autism. My mother often comments how when my younger brother was a baby, he would sit in his high chair and just look back and forth, watching me run around. Not speaking a word. No words, no expression. As a young child he often complained that his legs were weak and hurt. He had issues in school, making friends. I once said to her "now think about what you just said. Do you now realize what plagued him for years that no one figured out?" Without a doubt he would have an Asperger's diagnosis today. He is 45, this is long before the thimerisol generation. He has "issues" to this day. Much was overlooked, and even more was claimed to be

"developmental....they'll grow out of it." Yes we are more aware. For this to be identified in an 8 month old baby is actually a good thing. They can get intervention and services earlier and hopefully the outcome for that family will be better. I do believe that heredity plays a very large part in this puzzle. The problem is that it's a different part with each effected child. Many different "processes" can cause this, I have no doubt. Mercury is just one of the pieces to this puzzle. Most people do not speak ill of the dead especially those just a few

hours deceased.I grew up in a Catholic family and later in life found

several things in Catholicism lacking Biblical support.

I am confident Jerry Falwell is in heaven.

Good for you Becky. I would also consider

refusing the ultrasounds. After the first

tri-mester, they're not accurate at all in

determining fetal size/age. Often these tests

are used late in pregnancy to convince the mother

into early inducement/c-section because the baby

might be " too big "

Many doctors also love to give ultrasounds, which

may cause problems these docs don't realize.

Check the info out online.
