Guest guest
Supposedly as society evolves, we reach critical crossroads. There has been constant gnawing away at speech which reflects acceptance of negative inferring stereotypes. The black community has constantly railed over and expressed it's opposition to this. They have even gone over to using negative hyperbole in the form of degrading rap lyrics to express their pain at the constant dishing up of 2nd class fare which they are forced to consume. By the way, I'm no fan of rap, I find it's lyrics an internecine, despicable, denigrating, pernicious commodity. Imus has become a friend of the Autism parents and their plights/endeavours to save their kids. It therefore behooves us to side with him, find extricating excuses for his brash, crass societal commentary/ies etc. Problem here, is that Imus's comments merely reflect a negative trait of human nature, ie. that if a stereotyping practice is frequently used, it negates or retards society from really critically examining its underpinnings. We all hate the way assumptions are made about our kid/s based solely upon their outward appearances or physical practices. We object to their being denied access to the same opportunities as their NT peers. We therefore can't have it both ways. We have to accept that Imus crossed the line, which has been narrowed to the point of white society having to walk on tenterhooks with the sword of Damoceles suspended over their heads. It has enjoyed the benefits fruits of an unevenly rigged playing field for way too long. Heck, it's constantly subjectively defined the rules by which the game has been/is being played. ! We will never progress if we constantly resort to finding/making excuses for bigotry in any form. Imus screwed up. He must accept the consequences. There is no reason why another network won't " forgive" him, offer him a platform to continue. They'd be stupid not to, because he's been a 15 million $ cash cow to CBS/NBC.! I predict Fox will do so. but, I think that they will define his parameters strictly. We have to grab each one of these opportunities, learn from them, make adjustments predicated upon the necessity to improve ourselves. This constant whitewashing of the gravity of the issue is only a pitiful excuse we constantly practice due to the fact that we have subjective agendas which narrowly benefit us in the short term. It's this very practice which has paralyzed, corrupted and raped the whole political process. No wonder nothing substantive gets accomplished in DC ? ! Every pokitical decision is tied to subjective benefits for the segment of society which the profferer represents. Coming back to Newton's law of "for every action there's an equal and opposite reaction", no wonder there's a negative effect to/for a different segment of society. So, we have to return to the basics of decency, respect, humility, compassion, sincerity, humanity, and most of all honesty. Honesty at being willing to recognize and define something for exactly what it is. Imus expressed words which reflected his and powerful segments of society's' bigotry. he has apologized. let's hope that he's forgiven and given another microphone, but with the proviso, that what he does from here out represents a genuine sincere change and appreciation for the hurt that his comment and many others like it have caused. I wish him and everone else well, take care. n Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check out new cars at Autos.
