EWG Scientist Takes on Congressman in Rocket Fuel Fight

EWG's Anila , MD testified in the House

about the dangerous effects that perchlorate, aka rocket fuel, could

have on infants as a result of contaminated drinking water in many U.S.

cities. When challenged by Illinois

Congressman Shimkus that the financial burden of cleaning up tap

water would be too burdensome for corporate giants like Lockheed

, Dr.

replied that Congress's first concern ought to be the health of

the nation's children who are forced to drink rocket fuel in their tap

water.

And just this weekend, Dr. appeared on ABC's Good Morning America to

explain the dangers of perchlorate turning up in our water supply. Watch the video clip here.

Cook to Congress: Double Investment in Conservation

During his farm bill testimony on Capitol Hill last week, EWG President Ken Cook urged members to put the environment at the top of the agenda by doubling federal investment into conservation programs rather than forking taxpayer money over to wealthy, absentee landlords.

Why all this excitement over billions of dollars of your money going to a handful of wealthy, commercial farming operations rather than to save watersheds and curb farm pollution? EWG is about to release a new database that reveals--name by name--exactly who wins under our wasteful

farm subsidy system. Who loses? Taxpayers and the tens of thousands of farmers who apply for funds to protect wildlife and the environment every year, but who are turned away for lack of funding.

More on our database updates soon! In the meantime, you can "follow the money" with our current Farm Subsidy Database, which has already changed the farm bill debate.

Ask EWG: New Carpet Nastiness & Make-up Minerals

Question #1: I've heard nasty rumors that new carpet is treated with

some really bad chemicals, then rolled up and stored until sold. What

is the carpet treated with and what should I do?

Read our researchers' answer.

Question #2: Is mineral-based make-up safer than traditional make-up bought at drug stores? How is it absorbed into the body?

Read our researchers' answer.

ASK EWG: CARPET & MAKE-UP

What is new carpet treated with, and what should you do? Find out.

Is mineral-based make-up safer? Find out.

PROJECT BOTTLED WATER UPDATE

We've gathered over 6,000 bottled water labels, but keep 'em coming! Got a bottle handy right now? Enter it now and help build our database.
