Guest guest
I'd call and check on it. we don't make our patients prep for EGD. Ursula - currently playing the OR/Endo nurse endoscopy question---what purpose is there in making a poor victim of EGD drink the nasy death inducing Trylite solution for an EGD? I know I had to drink it for the colonoscopy last month, and OMG I was seriously, not kidding, near death from the junk. I got a letter with my endoscopy appt stating that again, two days no food and TWO MORE GALLONS of trylite. Are they trying to KILL ME? when Savannah had her EGD she just couldnt eat the day of the procedure----why are they terrorizing me this way? LOL anybody know? Guest guest
My boys have never had to drink anything for their endoscopies. Are you having a colonoscopy at the same time? Let's see..we've had 5 total endoscopies done... As for the anesthesia.if the boys start waking up, they push more meds to knock them out. Guest guest
Valarie - just make sure they are aware that you do take pain medication. If you are taking it now or have taken it on a chronic schedule. Most of the patients I recover need more if they take pain meds consistently. How did you know that you woke up for 2 minutes? Just curious. I had a guy Wed who swore we didn't do the procedure, swore he had never gone to sleep. But I showed him the pictures and the lab work and he finally went home believing me. I've had both procedures several times and it does truly feel like you blink and it's over. Ursula
Guest guest
You may need general anesthesia or continue to tell them of your past experiences...Our MDA's take those complaints seriously...but there is a fine line between conscious sedation " amnesia state " and General anesthesia..... Hope that helps.... endoscopy Ursula, Before I call and start a big fat pout with the GI's office, did you ever happen to find out if there is any reason to die of Trylite solution for the endoscopy? Bc really, I would really sooner drink mud. Another question, since you happen to have the knowledge---brief history here---pain meds for me take quite a lot to have any effect, and never, ever knock me out. I have awakened during anesthesia before, briefly--hearing.... " she's waking up, give here more....... " , at the dentist, it takes at least 6 shots to start to numb for a filling, and when I went for a nightmare root canal last winter, the dr was stumped that after 3 different anesthetics, I could still feel and tell him everthing he was doing. When I went for the colonoscopy, I had the versad/demerol combo, and only went out for 2 minutes, which is most certainly not something pleasant, esp not for that particular procedure. I really, REALLY dont want to wake up again during this one. I always tell the nurses I have this problem but they just smile and say " dont worry, you'll be out " . Well, for some reason, I'm not and I wonder what I can say that will get this the attention it needs..and what else I could take that would ensure me the " amnesia like state " I was assured of last time?(which wasnt amnesia, it was more like HELL!!!IM AWAKE IM AWAKE DUDE!!!STOP!!!) Have you encountered this with patients and what would you suggest? Valarie
Guest guest
Valarie - are you going back to the same endo lab for this procedure? I don't know that they really know how to medicate a patient right. If there was a different outpatient endo suite to choose from you might want to go elsewhere. Guest guest
Valarie, I have had more endoscopies than I can count. I have also had two colonoscopies. I never go under. I was wide awake for the last colonoscopy and remember it vividly. It takes me forever to go under, and the dr kept telling the nurse to give me more. I just figure it is the way I am. I had the colonoscopy first, then the endoscopies. I remember the first half of the endoscopy. The dr was pretty upset. He also found Erythema (redness) and erosions in the gastro esophageal junction which he did biopsies on and sent to the lab. I have to call him in a week and find out what the lab said. Apparently this is consistent with GERD, but Dr. Tanner is a wise man and doesn’t try to talk to me much while I’m on the twilight cuz he knows I won’t remember shit. Guest guest
I don’t remember if I told y’all this, but when I had my colonoscopy a few months ago, the doc when on & on with the nurses about how the interferon turned my hair white & it never changed back. He is so amazed by that. Well, Tuesday when I went for the office visit before the scope, we had another conversation about my white hair and he actually asked me if I had it to do over, would I still do tx. I said “Because of my HAIR??????” He said yeah. I laughed & told him of course I would, that my hair was the best part (other than clearing) of tx, I get so many compliments, I love the color. He is still just in shock. He has no idea what to think about me. HAHAHAHAHA I need to get a recent pic up for y’all to see how it looks now that it’s longer, with the white on top & brown underneath. And for you people on treatment now, I’m the only person we know of that had their hair turn white. And only the part that fell out turned white. We think it’s because of my preexisting autoimmune skin disease, vitiligo, that kills the pigment in my skin. It obviously killed the pigment in my hair follicles, too. Guest guest
Lately I don't feel well, heartburn, stomach pain etc. I went to doctor, I kept treatment with different pills, nothing worked much, now I am not taking anything and I feel a little better. Now, the doctor schedule me for an endoscopy. Is sounding scaring, they will give me some pills to put me to sleep before to insert the camera in my throat. I am a little worried about the sleep pills, did anybody did this ??? Any concerns I should have? Thank you. Silvia
Guest guest
I've had an endoscopy. It can be risky if your breathing is significantly compromised. Throughout mine I wore my bipap nasal pillows and throughout the short proceedure I was supported by my respiratory consultant who very quickly added oxygen when my levels dropped briefly. I had it done without any sedation and whilst it was one of the most unpleasant experiences of my life it was over very quickly, say 2 mins max. I personally think it could be too risky to go along with their plan to put you to sleep. Guest guest
The doctor said is going to give me some sedatives and also spray in my mouth. He said some people don't take any sedatives. I am breathing by myself, even if I have advanced scoliosis. The doctor said I will be awake, just sedated, like if he is yelling at me we can communicate. Thank you for your answers! > > > > > > Hi Silvia, > > I`ve had endoscopy several times and never been put to sleep. Guest guest
It is possible to have it done without both throat being numbed and sedation. Though safer it is as I said most unpleasant! Guest guest
Hi Silvia, Please let me allay your fears about the endoscopy. Needed one about 6 years ago and it sounded scary to me, too, but it's actually no big deal. No pills to swallow, as they use a small dose of anesthesia and you are only under for a few minutes. They wake you up and I didn't even have any hangover. Nothing like a real surgery. You might be there 60-90 minutes due to procedural things, but that's just because they're always extra careful when using anesthesia. Don't know why they don't just explain procedures in detail! And if you still feel any concern, I'd call the doctor for a play-by-play. Obviously, each of us is different, but it shouldn't be traumatic at all. Let us know how it goes.
