Lori,

Thank you so much for the reply. He does have an automatic bed. I currently

change his position at night every 2 hours from back to side, side to back, legs

bent, legs straight, etc. He is unable to grab the remote and move the bed on

his own, and he doesn't like anything laying too close to him or on top of him,

so we have not figured out a good solution to him operating the bed on his own

yet.

I used to adjust his position every 30 minutes to an hour, but have slowly went

to every 2 hours- I guess maybe I should try doing it more often again and see

if that helps.

Buckle Fracture Question

Me again! In 2009, Brett had a buckle fracture at the distal end of his femur

(right by his knee)- ever since it healed, his knee pops all the time. He

tells

me that it is very painful. It pops if his legs have been in one position for

over an hour and we change the position. For example, straight to bent, bent

to

straight. I have tried massaging, using Bio-Freeze, and a heating pad. The

heating pad seems to be the only thing that helps it not hurt as bad. Lately,

when I put him in his chair, I have to push his knee to the right for it to

pop

so he can be comfortable. I have called the local ortho doc and they don't

seem

too worried.

When we go to the doctor on Thursday, I am going to request an x-ray but does

anyone have any advice or experience with this? It just doesn't seem right

that

he should have so much pain on a daily basis. Thanks in advance for any

advice.

Re: Alternative Bed Controls

Check with Center for Accessible Technology ( http://www.cforat.org ) about

alternative switched for Brett to use. My friend Hane Berliss- is a

genius there. If she doesn't have a solution, she probably knows who does.

Also, Tash (

http://www.ablenetinc.com/Home/Products/TashProducts/tabid/70/Default.aspx ) has

an incredible line of adaptive switches and buttons.

Good luck!

Kristal,

You must be a superwoman to turn every two hours (another awesome sma mom!) and

still function during the day! You must have somehow got used to that. My

heart is with you! Best wishes to you and Brett! xo
