Guest guest
Hey everybody, I know it's been a while so I shall update you... but I also need some advice. I am in the process of moving in with... my fiance. Him and I are also thinking about children in the future... of course once we get all financial things worked out. My much needed advice is to all the mothers with SMA type 2. What are the dangers? What do I need to be aware of? My fiance wants to know what he should expect? I also would like to know how you did it and how it affected you. To explain to you, I'm not fully immobile, I don't have problems gaining weight. I had spinal correction surgery when I was 7. My lungs are great. My posture is a bit ascue due to rod displacement. I know that there are women with sma that have had children, so that us some hope... we just don't want to be in the dark. I'd appreciate any information, and we will keep you all posted. Peace and Love, Cortney

Guest guest
I have SMA II and miscarried two children in our second trimesters. Killer thing is I was using four birth control methods every time I had sex and one of those methods was surgical sterilization (on the guys part) that all failed. I would've gladly had my two kids but life had other plans for all of us involved. I've known women with our disability who've had a child then had abortion after failed birth control because they felt it was the fairer choice for the living child to grow up without the pressure of IF a second pregnancy failed or weakened them. A very dear friend (who's home I was at when I miscarried my daughter) last words while passing on were how she NEVER regretted having her son, felt sad she had to abort his younger sibling but was ready to die and grateful she lived to see him grown up and on his own. It's all an individual choice and experience for each and every one of us when it comes to having kids. The only thing is to be very cautious of anybody with extreems in medical advice. A friend with SMA was told by doctors, " You will DIE before the child is born! " , she lived to see that child finish college. Another, " You can have children and you'll be fine! " , died after miscarrying her fifth child. Another had her son, then her lungs collapsed the next day, she went on a vent, died eight years later. Other women with SMA II that I've met had a child or two and even a third little one all healthy happy and thriving along. Follow your heart, do your homework, and whatever happens God Bless. > > Hey everybody, I know it's been a while so I shall update you... but I also need some advice. > I am in the process of moving in with... my fiance.
