Guest guest
What did everyone think of the telethon this year? To me, it just wasn't the same without Jerry . Manning
Guest guest
It was definitely different. I don't know the exact circumstances of him leaving, though I've heard various rumors, but I thought it was nice that they did a tribute for him on the telethon. Regardless of the reasons for his departure, he has spent many years and dedicated lots of time to MDA raising much needed money for our families, so for that I am grateful. I did like the new format of the telethon, doing the 7 hour show with bigger name acts rather than the longer 21 hour format. It seems to me that it was a success. > > What did everyone think of the telethon this year? Guest guest
I was very disappointed. It wasn't even on Labor Day. I'm sure those who were in charge did their best & all the donations of time & money are appreciated, but it definately was messed up. No special song at the end....Abbey was the best!! Guest guest
I'm very probably going to get several who disagree, but I was actually impressed with the Telethon this year. While I appreciate the dedication given to the MDA & the attention brought to the cause by Jerry , I think the best decision made was to get rid of him. The entire atmosphere was so different, so much more positive & upbeat. It wasn't the usual pity fest begging for money because " kids " are going to die without it. Let's face it, neuromuscular diseases SUCK, but those living with it just want a chance at life! Not once, did I feel sorry for , the attorney from Orlando; he's kicking butt in life DESPITE SMA! He never denied difficulties that are, at times, involved, but he overcomes the obstacles. Furthermore, a picture of a man in a wheelchair strolling with his " wife " beside him & his " child " on his lap was shown throughout the show. I thought that was SO cool, something never seen before! I think the MDA might finally be " getting " it! Guest guest
Hello, I'm in Canada, Ontario, I could not find the telethon on the television. I was told that Jerry was not going to be hosting anymore. Does anyone know if this is true and is there a US or Canadian site that will show the high lights of the telethon if there was a telethon! As a former poster child, ambassador/spokesperson and lifetime board of director it was really sad to not to be able to follow the telethon and see no mention through the media about how much money they raised, research updates and it would be a very sad day if Mr. Jerry is not hosting anymore. Does anyone know how Jerry health is doing? Thanks I enjoy the site. Silvana
Guest guest
Hi Silvana, While didn't watch the telethon this year (I generally cannot stomach it or Jerry ), I did a Google search for you under the " Videos " tab and typed in " 2011 mda telethon " . Lots of videos are available there of this year's show. I also searched the MDA web site and found more videos here: http://telethon.mda.org/ I hope you enjoy and that you're able to find in on a local channel or the internet next year. Cheers!
